Job Summary:

The Sr. Instrumentation Designer will be responsible for preparing 2D drawings and 3D models for the design of complex offshore/onshore E&I systems utilizing CAD software.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· May Lead on Major Capital Projects, supervise and mentor others;

· Manage project work flow;

· Perform drawing corrections from supplied mark-ups;

· Interface with other disciplines;

· Produce instrument plan drawings using GA's, piping plans, etc.;

· Produce instrument installation details using engineering data sheets;

· Read and interpret vendor drawings and information;

· Read engineering data such as data sheets, instrument list, cause and effects, cable schedule, etc.;

· Create control systems architectural diagrams using engineering data;

· Create instrument cable block diagrams, cable and conduit routing and layouts, instrument and J-Box wiring diagrams using info from P&ID's, GA's, IO list, and vendor data;

· Create Loop Diagrams from P&ID's;

· Create cable schedules using cable block diagrams;

· Check instrument drawings of others;

· Create preliminary drawing register from SOW and BOD;

· Prepare man-hour estimates, schedules and CTR;

· Perform field work (independently and without supervision) as required to obtain accurate information and create sketches for the design of the project. Duration determined by the project requirements and project management.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

· Requires accredited drafting training and discipline training or have prior working experience.

· Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of Instrumentation drafting and design experience relating to Upstream and Downstream Oil & Gas facilities;

· Requires understanding of basic upstream and downstream process systems

· Requires understanding of control systems architectural diagrams

· Understand instrument cable block diagrams

· Strong knowledge of Fire and Gas systems

· Strong knowledge of Communication systems

· Pertinent knowledge of NEC, IEC, NEMA, ISA & ANSI

· Strong understanding of P&ID's

· Basic knowledge of ISA Instrument Symbols and Identification

· Basic knowledge of Instrument drawing terminology & symbology

· Proficient with design software i.e. (AutoCAD, and PDMS)

· Must have strong understanding of P&ID's, GA, IO lists, and other related I&C documents.

· Must have strong knowledge of PLC and DCS systems

· Must have a working knowledge of OSHA, and NEMA standards

· Must have working knowledge of Electrical Codes NEC and IEC

· Must have Strong knowledge of ISA Instrument Symbols and Identification.

· Must have working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Working Conditions:

· Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;

· Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere;

· Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;

· Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;

· Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;

· May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;

· May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;
