Laboratory Research Technician III
The Laboratory Research Technician will conduct experiments and assist in the management of day-to-day operations of a laboratory. The incumbent will help drive basic and translational research in understanding cardiomyopathy in congenital heart disease.
The incumbent will be expected to work independently on aspects of a research project as well as assist senior lab members with the design and planning of protocols and conducting molecular, biochemical, and cloning experiments. Additionally, the incumbent will be involved with novel imaging and bioengineering techniques.
Main Duties: Requirements
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Process data and use computer keyboard. Accurate visual recognition of small samples and repetitive pipetting; handling mice requires accurate eye to hand coordination, excellent visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must be very organized and be able to keep a database for mouse colonies, biological specimens, reagents, chemicals, etc. Must be able to reach/stack consumables on shelves.
This position will require standing for long periods of time and/or walking for extending periods (if resources need to be accessed at other University labs). Although infrequent, the position will occasionally require moving heavy equipment. May require changing tanks for incubators and cell culture equipment.
