The Economic Transformation Division’s mission is to accelerate the growth of New Jersey’s economy by implementing initiatives that enhance the State’s long-term economic competitiveness and establish New Jersey as an innovation leader within high job growth strategic industries, including life sciences, technology innovation, clean energy, and film and digital media. The division focuses on these priority industries and provides cross-industry support through workforce training, venture, manufacturing, and tax credits & incentives teams.

NJEDA’s Manufacturing, Incentives & Tax Credits Department seeks an outstanding intern candidate to collaborate with a team of highly motivated financial professionals, who are passionate about advancing New Jersey’s Innovation economy. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the team’s product portfolio including the Emerge program, NJ Manufacturing Voucher Program (MVP) and NJ Re-assigning In-State Employees NJ RISE.

Job and industry growth support are vital to growing the innovation economy. The NJEDA’s Manufacturing, Incentives & Tax Credit department manages products that assist businesses looking to expand their footprint in New Jersey by identifying industry gaps and engaging with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will assist in the execution and management of these products by providing administrative maintenance, creating marketing materials, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and assisting with program research, education, and processes.

The candidate will gain an in-depth insight into the facilitative role of State government in through assignments and research involving policy creation, business development, government operations, and program analysis. This internship is designed to prepare students for a fast-paced business environment.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the team with managing and improving the Emerge, NJ Manufacturing Voucher Program (MVP), and NJ Rise programs including the eligibility process updating marketing and presentation materials and designing and running Microsoft CRM reports.
  • Collaborates with NJEDA colleagues and external stakeholders to assist with managing programs and completing various administrative functions including working with NJEDA’s marketing and communications teams to assure the website is accurate, programs are accurately marketed, and success stories are shared.
  • Performs research on competitor state policies and programs as well as conducts company research.
  • Assists with developing and documenting best practices which can be institutionalized across multiple programs; defines and implements needed systems and policies.
  • Leads independent work and small project teams to execute program strategies.
  • Performs duties to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages. Especially Excel.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree program, or a recent graduate.
