As the Lead Cloud Architect, you will educate, plan and lead one of the largest U.S. Government Departments in creating a cloud modernization strategy, providing options for cloud service provisioning, user story capture and refinement, and enhancing cloud capabilities to solve mission problems.

HOW A LEAD CLOUD ARCHITECT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Lead a team that supports a nationwide organization that ensures that everyone in the United States has an affordable, healthy place to live.
  • Accept the challenge to strengthen Cloud systems and infrastructure within one of our nation's largest Departments.
  • Design and define Cloud Solutions architecture for 215 operational IT systems and other Development, Modernization, and Enhancements (DME) projects.


In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Serves as the senior SME for architecting and delivering cloud and on-prem hosting solutions.
  • Provides senior expertise to teams for application migration/modernization assessments.
  • Provide recommendations to optimize cloud usage costs by analyzing usage patterns and trends.
  • Leads assessments that include cloud deployment type (public/hybrid), cloud provider (AWS, Azure, and Google), OS, COTS, codebase, database, cloud services, application dependencies, disaster resilience requirements.
  • Maintain an understanding of advancing cloud capabilities, IT, and business needs, while identifying and proposing cost and functional efficiency options for ED's collaborative decisions and actions.
  • Create and maintain a roadmap of enhancements according to the customer's decisions and directions.
  • Provide expertise in high availability, contingency planning, and automated provisioning.
  • Help agency rationalize, architect, and plan application/system migration.
  • Leads annual architecture review with critical design recommendations.
  • Continuously analyze, research, identify, and recommend the most effective and efficient application of technology to meet HUD's mission requirements.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience


  • Experience: 15+ years of experience


  • Technical Skills:
    • 8+ years of systems engineering experience with at least 5+ years cloud solutions delivery using well-architected cloud frameworks, services, and technologies.
    • 2+ years working within a development team, delivering cloud services & solutions, and provisioning/automating infrastructure, services, and enterprise management tools.
    • Demonstrated expertise in developing, maintaining, and contributing to technical and process documentation.
    • Solutions Architect Associate certification from a major cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, or Google.


  • Security Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting.


  • Skills and abilities:
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working with stakeholders and development teams.
