Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time Naval Architect/Structural Engineer in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Naval Architect/Structural Engineer will provide full-time onsite support for vessels assessing structure, running analysis, and generating repair recommendations. Provide hands on experience with marine dry-docks and docking evolutions, reviewing blocking plans and running stability analysis. equipment and systems to include ship structures, material, welding and preservation systems, insulation, piping, etc.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for various assessments, inspections, and technical assistance as tasked.
  • Provide technical support in assessing structure, running analysis, and generating repair ship recommendations.
  • For marine dry-docks and docking evolutions, review blocking plans and run stability analysis.
  • Provide technical assistance, assessments and corrective actions as tasked for MARMC Code 240
  • Conduct inspections and/or assessments of current ship condition and evaluate findings of the inspections and/or assessments to determine a way forward to correct.
  • Write and prepare MAF/debrief reports where required.
  • Answer Engineering Service Requests (ESR) and Departure from Specifications (DFS) when applicable.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, etc. and report results to the SME as required.
  • Provide on the job training to Ship's Force (S/F) during shipboard evolutions.
  • May require travel 10% or greater.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must possess a 4-year Engineering Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) school with emphasis in Structural Engineering or Naval Architecture. Degrees in mechanical engineering may also be considered if the candidate demonstrates extensive structural analysis or naval architecture coursework.
  • Minimum of three (3) years specialized experience in the assessment, repair, and maintenance of structure on US Naval ships.
  • Minimum of three (3) years general experience performing structural analysis and load calculations to ensure sound design and compliance meeting US Navy requirements.
  • Hands-on experience onboard US Navy vessels assessing structure, running analysis, and generating repair recommendations. Hands on experience with marine dry-docks and docking evolutions, reviewing blocking plans and running stability analysis.
  • A candidate who has only structural experience or only docking experience, may still be considered depending on customer requirements/needs.
  • Current (within three [3] years) hands-on experience with this equipment.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, and visit processes and reporting methods.
  • Demonstrated experience using industry standard instrumentation for diagnosing equipment/systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using US Navy shipboard deck, bulkhead, and compartment numbering and naming conventions.
  • Demonstrated experience using US Navy and shipyard shipbuilding terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active SECRET clearance.

ADA Notations:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
  • Job may require bending, stooping, lifting.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
