A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MATERIAL TESTING TEHCNICIAN I (ULTRASONIC):

  • Performs ultrasonic inspection and testing of materials as assigned by the Ultrasonic Testing Supervisor.
  • Follows all applicable and required specifications and procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance to test requirements.
  • Ensures that the test equipment and instruments are functioning properly and in calibration prior to performing any tests. Informs Ultrasonic Testing Supervisor whenever any equipment is found to be out of calibration or in need of repair.
  • Unpacks materials received for testing and repackages the materials for shipping after testing has been completed.
  • Accurately and legibly serializes all material and marks rejected areas when applicable to ensure accurate traceability to the ultrasonic test chart recording.
  • Communicates job details to fellow ultrasonic technicians and department Supervisor as needed.
  • Meets testing schedule as direct by department Supervisor and communicates if issues arise that may jeopardize testing deadlines.
  • Assists with maintaining test equipment, which includes cleaning of equipment and performing preventative maintenance as scheduled.
  • Understands and complies with LTI’s QA Program at all times.
  • Seeks clarification when specifications or directions are unclear.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude required.
  • Excellent attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to obtain a forklift operator certification.
  • Ability to learn how to operate ultrasonic testing equipment, measuring instruments, hand tools, power saws, overhead cranes, and forklifts are all utilized.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
