Overview

This position will be working in the chronic pain research lab with Drs. Travis Lovejoy and Ben Morasco. The focus of our work is on improving the safety and effectiveness of treatments for chronic pain, with particular focus on treating under-served individuals.

The purpose of this Research Assistant position is primarily to assist in the execution of a multi-site clinical trial, which is examining the effectiveness of a multi-faceted intervention to treat chronic pain among patients who live in rural areas.

The primary responsibilities will be to recruit participants, complete research assessments, data entry, and tracking participants over time. Assessments will include evaluation of pain-related factors and mental health symptoms. The research assistant will assist with IRB-related tasks, complete data entry, prepare databases for statistical analyses, coordinate participant follow-up, and other general duties in support of the goals of the study. Essential qualifications include multi-tasking, dependability, attention to detail, and ability to work in a timely manner. Skilled at oral, email, and written communication. For those with relevant background, there may also be opportunities to conduct qualitative interviews with study participants.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's in relevant field OR
  • Associate's AND 2 years of relevant experience OR
  • 3 years of relevant experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Has working knowledge of traditional computing software (Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint) and statistical software. The position requires sufficient computer knowledge to interface with a variety of database, statistical, and processing software.


Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to applicants with a graduate degree in mental health (e.g., clinical or counseling psychology, social work). Applicants must have prior coursework and clinical experience working with individuals with psychiatric and/or substance use disorders.
  • Two or more years of research experience in a clinical setting is preferred.

  • A history of working in a clinical research setting is also necessary. Other preferred qualifications include someone with exceptional interpersonal skills and is detail-oriented.

  • Experience conducting quantitative or qualitative analyses, interpreting results, and disseminating findings through publications and presentations.
