NASA JSC Engineering is seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual to fill the position of VIPER Deputy Chief Project Manager. In this position you will work closely with both JSC and Contractor Engineering personnel, VIPER management as well at JETS management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and hardware testing as well as resource and budget management. Previous experience with NASA/JSC would be preferred. This role will be expected to be fully on site at JSC and imbedded with the VIPER Systems Integration and Test (SI&T) team.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a capable, cooperative and supportive team for the development, manufacturing, testing, certification, and sustaining engineering of major Government Furnished Equipment end items
  • Collaborate with NASA in developing Systems Engineering and Integration (SEI) people, processes and tools
  • Mentor Project Management (PM) and SEI personnel in critical thinking, decision making and behaviors to improve PM effectiveness and create high performing teams
  • Direct and hold accountable matrix organizations in the requirements development, design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of flight hardware
  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate issues within flight hardware, development or qualification test articles, or test support hardware
  • Review and evaluate the quantity, quality, and overall adequacy of results and conclusions drawn from accomplishment of engineering tasks
  • Define, communicate and mitigate project and program risks and as well as opportunities
  • Develop and effectively communicate Technical, Cost, Schedule and Risk plans and status to VIPER, JETS and NASA
  • Management as well as support Program level review boards
  • Establish and build a healthy project environment
  • Stand in as Chief PM as necessary
  • Perform other duties as required?

Job Requirements:

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience
  • Position requires close coordination with the NASA Branch Managers, NASA Project Managers, NASA SEI Managers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is a must
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules and to work unsupervised for long periods
  • Background in hardware development, testing, analysis and certification
  • Strong leadership to motivate and inspire others, achieve high customer satisfaction and gain cooperation of others
  • Perform cost and schedule estimating and management functions
  • Perform risk management including risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures

Requisition Preferences:

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science discipline and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience
  • Familiar with JSC organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process
  • Knowledge or experience in mission planning and analysis

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
