Summary/Objective:

The function of the Plumbing / Heavy Equipment Operator is to operate and maintain heavy equipment and participate in all aspects of the daily operations of the job site including but not limited to plumbing operations, maintenance, mechanical support, production, safety, and environmental compliance.


Essential Functions:

  • Daily operation of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, front end loaders, articulated haul trucks, and water trucks;
  • Daily maintenance of equipment
  • Installation of bolt-up flanged pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, and hangers according to job specifications and direction of Superintendent and Plumbing Foreman
  • Fabricate and install tubing and tubing fittings to instrument air equipment/valves
  • Possess and utilize hand tools such as pipe wrenches, tape measure, level, screwdriver, square and ratchet set
  • May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Respiratory protection is common and may be required
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all company, safety and project policies
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Grade and or level trench bases, floor sinks and floor drains.
  • Operate a tamper machine and or power tools
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards such as unmarked utilities and other workers onsite
  • Complete the necessary pre task work sheet
  • Assist in the daily operations of jobsite, and associated equipment as directed
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed and brings problems to supervisor, safety or HR
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Required:

  • 2-3 years of Plumbing experience and Operation of Excavator in construction field; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
  • Must have Experience in underground plumbing/sewer install
  • Must be able to read grade, slope stakes, and blueprints
  • Backfill a trench upon completion of inspections
  • Ability to perform calculations necessary for plumbing work
  • Operate and maintain an excavator and skid steerer
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skillsMust be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned, to include working varying schedules and require client-specific safety standards

The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:

Work Environment:

  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
  • May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights

Physical Demands:

  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Coordination to use all equipment controls

Travel:

  • May require travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred:

  • Skid Steer Loader and/or Bobcat Loader experience
  • Backhoe Certified
  • Forklift or Aerial lift experience
  • Victaulic grooving machine experience
  • Prior military experience
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
