Job Description

Summary/objective

We are looking for a full-time bartender that will be responsible for providing courteous and prompt service to members and guests of the Club at the Dornoch Grille. The bartender will prepare, pour, and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages while complying with state and local laws. The Dornoch Grille is open every day, and this position would need to be able to work a combination of days, nights, and weekends.

  • Inspects the bar prior to opening to ensure that adequate supplies are available.
  • Follows set-up procedures.
  • Prepares garnishes, fruit mixes, and pre-mixed drinks prior to opening bar.
  • Greets members and guests.
  • Reports complaints to Dornoch Grille Dining Room Manager as they occur.
  • Maintains and cleans the bar area and equipment.
  • Maintains records of liquor, beer, and wine to ensure bar stock is always maintained.
  • Cleans and locks the bar area according to prescribed closing procedures.
  • Ensures that all food items are correctly stored, labeled, dated, and rotated to prevent any health or safety hazards from occurring and takes precautions against possible spoilage.
  • Attends staff meetings including pre-shift (line-up) sessions and training as required.
  • Carefully follows all laws and Club policies and procedures regarding alcoholic beverage service and informs Dornoch Grille Dining Room Manager if continued service to a member or guest is in question.
  • Continually practices beverage and revenue control procedures.
  • Thanks members and guests and invites them to return.
  • Completes other appropriate work assignments as requested by supervisor.
  • Restocks and maintains an inventory of supplies such as liquor, beer, wine, soda, bar, and beverage items.
  • Performs opening and closing duties.
  • Maintains and cleans glassware as needed.
  • Performs general housekeeping functions such as sweeping, mopping floors, emptying trash, vacuuming carpets, and wiping bar mirrors.
Competencies
  • Ensures that all state and local laws, as well as Club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Able to prepare and serve alcoholic beverages according to standard recipes.
  • Complies with basic safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to work large or small events with minimal supervision and work well with a team.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to recall beverage orders.
Work environment
  • Exposure to loud noise level and a hot, humid environment.
Physical demands
  • Required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Continuous repetitive movements such as walking, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, stretching, twisting, or reaching.
  • Push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds.
Required education and experience
  • Must be of legal age to prepare and serve alcoholic beverages.
Preferred education and experience
  • Prior bartending experience or work in a comparable position.
