JOB SUMMARY: Provides subject matter expertise on one or more Ride and/or Show system disciplines, which includes but is not limited to, Ride Control, Show Control, Functional Safety, Network Systems, Parkwide Systems, Special Effects, Show Action Equipment, Animated Figures, and/or supporting systems. Performs research, development, review, approval, and technical analysis under an area of responsibility. Supports a broad range of assigned projects and teams to ensure work products adhere to and comply with contracted specifications, industry standards, and best practices.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains expert level knowledge and provides authoritative guidance on Universal specifications, applicable industry standards, and best commercial practices while guiding project teams in the successful design, build and installation of world-class ride and show systems, ensuring all equipment maintains the highest level of safety.
  • Provides technical review, redlines/comments, and in-person/verbal feedback as necessary to improve overall work product quality of teams supported across the entire project life cycle. This includes, but is not limited to, requirements review, design reviews, engineering analyses, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) reviews, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) reviews, and software review/code comparisons.
  • Champions and contributes to the continuous improvement of engineering and safety processes, specifications, training, templates, and guidance documents, in order to drive increased efficiency and effectiveness of project teams across the project lifecycle.
  • Actively mentors colleagues with regard to a variety of engineering and safety practices, as well as periodically teaches engineering and safety classes to project teams.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: Responsible for monitoring and expediting the design and development of show and / or ride control systems and software systems for a large multi-faceted theme park attraction(s) under contract with vendor(s). Provide technical expertise/insight, scheduling, and consultation services on behalf of Universal Creative and UO technical Services during all aspects of the progress of work.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation products (RS Logix, Guardlogix PLCs, Safety-Rated Variable Frequency Drives), Siemens Automation Products (S7 PLCs).
  • Design of safety-rated control systems per International Standards such as ISO13849.
  • Conducting hazard analysis in accordance with ISO 12100.A successful candidate would be able to perform the following to include, but not be limited to:
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to organize and manage a complex series of tasks and vendor(s) to develop and implement show and ride systems. Comfortable Influencing decisions of major nature.
    • High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will.
    • Comfortable working in a non-routine environment with frequently changing situations.

 

 

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in applicable technical field of study required (examples include electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mechatronics, robotics, and systems engineering) or equivalent demonstrated skill and experience; Master’s Degree in technical field preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 7-10 years’ experience in technical/engineering roles supporting electrical and control systems required.  Direct theme park-specific experience preferred (examples include, but are not limited to, ride control systems, show control systems, functional safety design, system level hazard analysis, risk assessment/reduction) or similar experience in related technical field.
