Summary of Functions

The Training and Development Director oversees the development and implementation of our new apprenticeship program. This role is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs to ensure that apprentices develop the skills and knowledge required for success in their roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Embrace Forgens Core Values in all aspects of the job.
  • Work with stakeholders to design, develop, and implement the apprenticeship program, defining program goals, establishing program guidelines, and communicating deliverables.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process for apprentices, including advertising apprenticeship opportunities, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and making final selections.
  • Develop and implement onboarding processes for new apprentices, including orientation sessions and training programs to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles.
  • Pair apprentices with mentors or supervisors who can provide guidance and support throughout their apprenticeship, monitoring their progress and providing ongoing support to ensure their success.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as maintaining program records, tracking apprenticeship progress, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the apprenticeship program and make improvements as needed, collecting feedback from apprentices, mentors, and other stakeholders to identify areas for enhancement.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with educational institutions, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to support the apprenticeship program and enhance opportunities for apprentices.
  • Promote the apprenticeship program internally and externally to raise awareness and attract potential candidates, communicating regularly with apprentices, mentors, and stakeholders to keep them informed about program updates and opportunities.
  • Develop and manage the program budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support program activities and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines governing apprenticeship programs, preparing regular reports on program outcomes, progress, and impact.
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Training and Development, Human Resources) required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Ten plus years of experience in program management, preferably in a training and development role.
  • Experience with NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) programs and certifications.
  • Experience delivering NCCER apprenticeship programs.
  • Heavy civil experience preferred.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong instructional design knowledge and abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently under deadlines, while providing high quality deliverables.
  • Team player experienced working collaboratively with diverse teams from junior staff to senior management.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Above average oral and written communication skills, leadership skills, along with use of independent judgement and creativity applied to resolution of issues.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is important.
  • Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is also essential.
  • Sitting for extended period is common.
  • No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally may be required.
  • Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculator, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Good reasoning ability and decision-making is important.
  • Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.

Primarily an office position. At time site visits and field project visits are required. Travel to offices and projects in various location around the country as needed. The following physical activities or abilities are commonly, but not always, associated with site visits.

  • Be able to stand or walk on a project site for extended durations.
  • When on project sites or if performing some types of work activity wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, earplugs, protective eyewear, gloves, hard hat, steel toed work boots, and high visibility safety apparel.

Work Environment

The job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting and occasionally outdoors at construction sites.

  • Job Site environment, including, but not limited to, machines, tools, heavy equipment, chemicals, solvents, dust and fumes.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Uneven ground.
