Description

About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

This is a unique opportunity for a recent civil/structural engineering graduate to join a growing team working on dams & hydraulic structures projects across the United States. You will have the opportunity to work on projects varying in both size and complexity early on in your career.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Hydraulic Structures Engineer-In-Training (EIT)/Designer we’ll count on you to:

  • Perform analysis and design of both new and existing hydraulic structures including dams, spillways, gates, outlet works, diversion structures, retaining walls, cofferdams, floodwalls, water conveyance structures, and foundations.
  • Perform calculations, sketches, and diagrams to support analysis and designs, under the supervision of a Senior Engineer.
  • Perform preliminary and detailed civil/structural analysis and design for primarily concrete and steel structures.
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams on civil and structural engineering projects.
  • Create engineering drawings in collaboration with CADD Technicians
  • Conduct basic interpretations of drawings, standards, codes, and other published materials.
  • Assist in the writing of technical reports including design criteria and design reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and writing of technical specifications.
  • Assist in the inspection of various hydraulic structures (travel will be required)
  • Review Contractor’s shop drawings and submittals regarding structural engineering work and responding to Contractor’s Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Work independently on small projects or assist more Senior Engineers on larger projects
