CYBER RANGE DIRECTOR Western Washington University 1000 NW Olympic College Way Poulsbo, WA 98370 Provide technical leadership to the range, develop and maintain relationships with other cyber ranges nationally, with educators in Washington State, and with industry and government partners, and direct research activities in conjunction with WWU and other schools and organizations. Establish and manage the physical, logical, and services architecture of the Range, including service delivery platforms. Work directly with the directors of other state cyber ranges, including working to develop a National Interstate Cyber Range System. Maintain relationships with academic institutions throughout the state at the University, College, and K-12 level to promote use and adoption of the Cyber Range and to encourage the development of work-force ready students who have hands on experience in cyber security. Initiate, coordinate, and support research and development efforts by faculty and students from WWU and other institutions, both in-state and out-of-state. Identify potential research and project areas, coordinate with researchers, mentor students and other researchers, and ensure research and project environments are available to support research efforts. May from time to time teach courses (20% of time) in the WWU cybersecurity curriculum to ensure the quality of the facilities and resources meet educational requirements. Position may include additional duties that utilize the required skills. Required Qualifications: Requires a Master’s degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field. Must have two years of experience in cyber security in a management and oversight position, such as CTO, CIO, or related. Experience must include: • Providing customers with a portfolio of cyber security, risk, and compliance offerings, as well as owning and being accountable for research, development, engineering, cloud architecture and all technical deliverables; • Designing and managing infrastructure on AWS, Azure, Digital Ocean, and On-Premise; • Leading and mentoring teams of developers as well as analyzing and defining tasks, workflows, and system architecture, and collaborating with executives on business development requirements and ensuring the translation of requirements into a technical solution; • Overseeing the deployment and maintenance of big data streaming pipelines as well as develop, deploy, and maintain micro-service architecture using docker and kubernetes; and • Developing and delivering knowledge transfer to clients and establishing and maintaining the data governance processes and mechanisms for the entity. Telecommuting permitted up to 20%; employee must reside within normal commuting distance of WWU’s office in Poulsbo, Washington. Travel 5% of time to national conferences and meetings.
