TECHNICIAN SUMMARY: Assists in application of principles, methods, and techniques of land survey technology.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Reviews project specifications and confers with Project Engineers, Survey Supervisor or Survey Party Chief concerning assistance required such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes, and reports.
  • Obtains and analyzes topographical details of sites
  • Prepares reports detailing tests conducted and results.
  • Drafts detailed dimensional drawings such as those needed for highway plans, survey, topographic maps, streets, sewer and water control projects.
  • Calculates dimensions, profile specifications, and quantities of materials such as steel, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Inspects construction site to determine conformance of site to design specifications.
  • Assists engineers to ensure that construction and repair of water and wastewater treatment systems meet pollution control requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and averages.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid driver license.
