The Student Records and Financial Services office is looking for a Student Records and Financial Services Specialist to provide outstanding customer service to Alfred State students and their families regarding financial aid, billing, and student records.

This position is responsible for coordinating the Federal Work Study Program. Duties include placement of students within open positions while ensuring compliance with federal, state and institutional policies and regulation, managing the payroll, job descriptions and postings, communicating with supervisors and departments on procedures and best practices, and coordinating with Career Development on new initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist students and families regarding the types of financial aid programs available, program requirements, responsibilities, and application procedures.
  • Assist students with various questions regarding their accounts including but not limited to payments, holds, and refunds.
  • Assist students and parents with bill processing and payments.
  • Perform student services functions including assisting with registration questions/processes; add/drop procedures, graduation information and basic records related questions.
  • Monitor holds for students in loan default.
  • Make web updates as required for Financial Aid.
  • Coordinate and send Satisfactory Academic Progress notifications.
  • Resolve NYS TAP Grant award discrepancies on a regular basis.
  • Assist with the account reconciliation of various financial aid funds.

Job Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

Associate's degree and two years of responsible work experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree preferred
  • Higher Education office experience
  • Experience with Banner or other comprehensive student financial or billing information system
  • Experience with billing, payments, and/or financial aid
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and analytical skills
  • Strong commitment and excellence in customer service
  • Excellence in time management and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent professional written and oral communication skills
  • Tolerance of ambiguity, flexibility and a sense of humor are essential
  • The ability to work as a team member as well as the confidence to work independently is expected
