The College of Engineering wishes to appoint a Director of Education Initiatives to support the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems ( IRIS ) graduate education activities, which are highly specialized due to the incorporation of natural infrastructure systems and nature-based solutions. In this role, the selected candidate will work directly with Dr. Brian Bledsoe, Georgia Athletic Associate Distinguished Professor and Director of the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems ( IRIS ), at the College of Engineering’s School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering ( ECAM ). The Director of Education Initiatives will be appointed at the Academic Professional Associate rank and will oversee the development of new curriculum and degree and certificate programs in addition to coordinating graduate students currently enrolled in IRIS’s innovative education programs .

The position is a 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position with a 70% administrative, 10% research, and 20% teaching responsibility. The candidate would join a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the University of Georgia who are engaged in collaborations between

IRIS , the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE ), other universities, and private and public sector partners.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with senior faculty to develop face-to-face and online curriculum and courses to support a certificate and/or degree program in nature-based systems. Working closely with faculty to develop a professional certificate, including online content, aimed at upskilling the existing workforce. Managing the internal and external approvals processes for course and degree programs. Developing and implementing an outreach and stakeholder engagement plan to solicit input from the public and private sector on workforce skills and knowledge needs. Coordinating graduate students enrolled in IRIS’s education programs, including serving as point-of-contact for our external research partners, coordinating field work, and building community among cohorts. Supporting

IRIS

faculty in the recruitment of new graduate students. Serving as faculty of record for courses critical to the curriculum.

This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the continuation of funding sources year-to-year.

Additional Requirements

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability and commitment to thriving in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and the ability to conceptualize and implement high quality/high impact engineering research and/or design projects.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Expertise in managing science or engineering education programs or programs in higher education, governmental, or non-profit operating environments. A background that includes managing cross-functional teams in a project/assignment setting, establishing schedules, and accomplishing milestones. This position is highly specialized due to the incorporation of nature-based systems, and background in green and nature-based systems is preferred. At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
