This is a key senior leadership role responsible for planning, directing and evaluating nursing quality and improving patient care and service across the care continuum for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.

Reporting to VMMC President, an incumbent serves as the site-based chief nursing executive and provides strategic leadership through the implementation of key strategic and operational initiatives that improve financial performance / productivity, maximize effective utilization of resources, enhance patient outcomes / service satisfaction of all identified customer groups, promote effective safety / risk management and generate a competitive advantage for VMFH.

An incumbent works in collaboration with the Division CNO and other VMFH campus CNOs to implement consistent and standardized approaches to align with organizational and regulatory compliance goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following section contains representative examples of job duties that might be performed in positions allocated to this job class.

Operational Accountability

Plans, directs and evaluates, through subordinate management, the programs, systems, operations and resources of the assigned clinical area(s) to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic patient care, achievement of clinical core measurement scores, and the application of consistent practices relating to clinical/administrative operations, human resources activities and VMFH standards. Establishes strategic direction and priorities for the provision of site-based patient care and develops, implements, and evaluates hospital, ambulatory and skilled nursing models for providing nursing care. Advances the professional practice of nursing by ensuring care delivery is based upon industry standards of clinical quality, service quality, clinical education, engagement best practice and research, industry best practice and outcome performance as defined by organizations, such as the American Nurses Association and CALNOC Quality Indicators. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with officials in key public agencies (e.g. Department of Health), accreditation agencies (The Joint Commission), health care systems and related entities to ensure that VMFH is actively involved in national quality discussion and research.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensures full compliance with internal/external legal and regulatory standards and requirements, and that effective control procedures are in place and fully functioning to preclude improprieties from occurring; monitors the effectiveness of current practices in meeting expectations and producing desired results.

Performance/Quality Improvement

Continuously improves patient care services through innovative service enhancements, exploration of developmental opportunities, coordination of initiatives across multiple departments, performing benchmarking, market and competitor analysis, understanding quality and cost drivers; actively lead performance improvement initiatives and monitor nursing-sensitive quality and safety indicators; diagnoses organizational issues and provides create and evidence-based solutions for improvements.

Resource Management/Budget Administration

Determines resources needed to accomplish the performance objectives of the clinical area(s) and to align/optimize resources to positively impact organizational strategies towards achievement of goals; keeps President apprised of all issues with potential for budgetary impact.

Staff Management and Development

Directs, oversees and evaluates the work of clinical management staff in accordance with the content, spirit and intent of applicable internal/external regulations and standards for human resource management; ensures adequate staffing levels for appropriate coverage to meet budgetary and operational objectives.

Performs related duties as required. ','!*!Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related clinical field and seven years of progressively responsible related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including five years in a leadership experience. Three to five years demonstrated effectiveness in leading nursing programs in a complex healthcare setting.

Requires both clinical and managerial skills and related competencies sufficient to operate within a complex healthcare environment which involves managing through the application of influence rather than a traditional hierarchical model.

Doctor of Nursing Practice is preferred.
