Position Summary
As the Lead Advanced Practice Provider, you will be responsible to provide all clinical duties of an acute care APP as well as administrative duties including leadership, direction, education, operational efficiency, and supervision for Advanced Practice Providers within the department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
Organize, oversee, and review assigned duties pertinent to the clinical area of oversight (Cardiac Surgery, Invasive Cardiology, Non-Invasive Cardiology).
Maintain daily scheduling and staffing based on service needs in the department.
Direct, educate and mentor staff in the development of sound clinical judgment (synthesis of clinical data and determination of subsequent plan) to encourage positive patient outcomes.
Develop and supervise program development; participate in designing organizational processes appropriate to area of skill congruent with patient needs and organizational goals.
Create, advise, and influence system level policy that affects innovation in patient care programs.
Participate in and conduct house wide committee work where appropriate, which determines and guides clinical policy and practice standards.
Actively participate in White Plains Hospital Performance Improvement Program. The APP Lead will periodically assess the quality of patient care delivery and find opportunities for changes in practice, rooted in evidence-based standards of care/protocols.
If area of oversight includes Cardiac Surgery OR: Perform endoscopic vein and artery harvesting, and assist in cardiac surgical procedures, including but not limited to saphenous vein harvesting, radial artery harvesting, open and closure of chest, cannulation and decannulation, as needed.
Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and technical competencies of an acute care APP in the Department of Cardiac Services which may include daily rounding with multidisciplinary team, formulation and implementation of plan of care, invasive bedside procedures, and ACLS protocols.
Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests. Interprets laboratory and diagnostic test results.
Able to evaluate medical/surgical problems of Cardiac patients and appropriately requests consults to other specialties when indicated.
Provides education to patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical-surgical treatments and/or medications pertinent to the Cardiac Services patient's condition.
Documents all medical evaluation, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with all regulatory standards and evidenced-based standards of care. Maintains documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing.
Coordinates safe discharge/transfer of cardiac services patients.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
A minimum of 5 years of relevant APP experience
Experience in endoscopic vein and artery harvesting if working in Cardiac Surgery.
Experience in a leadership or supervisory role
Graduation from Accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
Current NCCPA Board Certification (National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants).
Current New York State Licensure
Current DEA Licensure
Current BLS and ACLS Certification
Current Infection Control Certification
Computer Skills: Basic Microsoft Office. Use Previous Epic software use preferred

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
Constantly utilizes/operates computer to access and document information.
Ability to communicate with patients, families, and hospital employees on telephone and using email. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
