Operating Room (Inpatient or Outpatient Surgery) Schedule: Various Shift and Hours ABOUT THE MENINO (INPATIENT) OPERATING ROOM DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER: The 17 Menino Operating rooms cater to our busy inpatient and emergent surgical needs across dozens of surgical specialties. Recent OR expansions mean the most updated and advanced surgical equipment including a dedicated hybrid room, Da Vinci Robotics room, and renovated team spaces. The Menino ORs offer a fast-passed, high-skill, collaborative work environment where you will work in all surgical service specialties with highly trained

teammates. ABOUT THE MOAKLEY (OUTPATIENT) OPERATING ROOM DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER: The Ambulatory Surgery Center consists of 8 operating and procedural rooms and completes outpatient surgery in several surgical specialties including plastics, general, gynecology, orthopedic, sports medicine, ear nose and throat and

urology. It

has a dedicated nursing staff, pre procedural area and post anesthesia care unit while sharing close proximity to all the resources of the inpatient operating rooms. POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the surgical team, the surgical technician provides patient care during surgical procedures by providing an aseptic and safe environment. Duties include prepping and sterilizing rooms, transporting patients, passing instruments and providing assistance to surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other staff during surgery. Uses technical and aseptic techniques to ensure methodology is in compliance with established sterile standards and procedures. EDUCATION: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Must also be a graduate of an accredited/approved program in surgical technology (or completed an Armed Forces medic or corpsmen program). CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : Surgical Technician certification required (unless employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013). KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Previous surgical tech experience preferred. Ability to effectively speak read and write English Ability to accurately interpret and use medical terminology and abbreviations Computer proficiency to access and enter computerized data/information. Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with patients, families, physicians, and other hospital staff. Organizational skills to effectively set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work. Boston Medical Center
