Job Description: The Role

As VP of Product – Identity, you will be accountable to deliver identity solutions that enable commerce, from product design and strategic planning to roadmap execution, performance management, and commercial outcomes. This is a mission critical role with outsized brand and commercial impact, and a cross-functional support structure to drive one of PayPal’s most strategic priorities.

Product Strategy: This role is responsible for developing and executing a strategy for creating commerce-ready consumer and merchant identity solutions that reduce friction and enable innovation while protecting the PayPal ecosystem. He/she should also develop a clear view on how we leverage and extend emerging technologies to surpass the competition.

Strategic Partnership: Success in this role requires active participation in industry organizations looking to advance identity and security technologies for the benefit of global commerce, building strategic partnerships, and applying emerging best practices to ensure PayPal is delivering world-class user experiences across its portfolio of products.

Building Scalable Products: A key success factor of the role is a robust strategy, developed in partnership with other key product leaders, on how we scale secure identity solutions across geographies, devices, and operating systems with the goal of delivering simple, consistent, and secure experiences for consumers and merchants.

Effective go-to-market strategy: This product leader will also be responsible for working closely with the other Product, Go-to-Market, Sales, Marketing teams to build a strong inbound feedback loop from consumers and merchants and take products to market in a cohesive manner that quickly drives mass merchant and consumer adoption.

Accountability for the Commercial outcomes for the Product Line: This leader will be accountable for financial commitments & key KPIs along with product delivery versus commitments made, including ensuring the appropriate compliance and risk management controls are in place. This role will establish operating mechanisms with leadership to share progress and business outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

Lead a team of Product Managers and provide strategic leadership and day-to-day decisions for a very large cross-functional team. Lead product strategy development, and share a clear, executable view of the product strategy in leadership forums and with the cross-functional teams (through all hands, product reviews, etc.). Lead successful execution of products and features that innovate, scale, and meet fintech regulatory requirements. Engage closely with engineering and architecture to determine the best technical implementation/design while balancing time-to-market needs for critical customer pain points. Represent the end customer on an ongoing basis and use this to drive effective prioritization and decision-making. Collaborate and influence product outcomes in a matrix organization with multiple stakeholders – Engineering, Operations, Risk, Legal, Sales, Business Development, Marketing, Finance and Banking Partners. Data-driven decision-making: Use A/B Testing, analytics, customer discovery, market research, and competitive analysis to drive decision-making. Responsible for budget commitments and execution of KPIs, decisions to course correct as needed. Lead operating mechanisms that drive execution and accountability like product reviews, monthly business reviews, and operating reviews with the CEO, as needed.

Key Requirements:

At least 10 years’ experience providing product or engineering leadership related to identity and security technologies. Demonstrable contributions to identity frameworks through entities such as Fido, OpenID, Oauth, or WebAuthn strongly preferred. Direct prior experience in eCommerce, FinTech, and banking ecosystem a major plus 8+ years managing product and technology teams across multiple products and industries, experience applying artificial intelligence and/or machine learning strongly preferred Proven track record for building, launching, and maintaining high-scale, successful products Effective delivering products in a matrixed organization, influence and align partners across different points of view or functions, to drive action and change Ruthlessly prioritize initiatives and leverage creative solutions including 3rd parties Engage consumers and merchant in discovery and solutioning to deliver innovative products Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Engineering, Sales, Support, Finance, Go-to- Market, Risk & Compliance, to deliver best-in-class products and experiences Ability to make decisions and progress in the face of ambiguous and at times overlapping priorities Manage complex deliverables and maintain high-quality standards while meeting project timelines Highly developed communication skills with a superior ability to present complex concepts and issues to leadership teams in a compelling, persuasive, and fact-based manner. Prior experience as an Agile Product Owner (Scrum/XP), with a deep understanding of the critical skillsets leveraged, including: Product roadmap development and communication Backlog grooming and prioritization Partnership with architecture and engineering teams to ensure complete product definition, including both functional and non-functional requirements Acceptance criteria and KPI implementation to drive product level Definition of Done Cross-team prioritization and dependency management in a scaled Agile environment
