Position Summary: As Medical Affairs Director, this position will serveas a medical scientific representative to health care professionals andbasic science and clinical investigators, building stakeholderrelationships through scientific exchange. In this role, you willcontribute to Ironwoods mission by providing development of the medicalstrategy for assigned assets within medical affairs. Internally theindividual in this role serves as a medical scientific expert, expandingIronwoods knowledge and capabilities through training, translation andcommunication of medical scientific evidence and by contributing to R&Dand commercial strategies which foster innovation through identificationof unmet medical needs. Key Responsibilities: Lead and direct relevantmedical responsibilities by providing scientific insight and developmentof strategy for assigned compounds by participating and leadingcommittees to realize Ironwoods overall vision. Committees may include:Planning Teams, Commercial Planning Teams, Product Strategy Teams,various development committees, Medical-Regulatory-Legal (MRL) Teams,IIR Committees, etc. and other teams as designated or as the compoundsevolve and progress in development. Develop and maintain relationshipsexternally through Advisory Boards, Professional Associations,Professional Meetings and Conferences, etc. to achieve Ironwoodsscientific objectives. Manage budget for specific Cost Center andprovide direction and oversight for the overall therapeutic area budget.Identify and build relationships with opinion leaders in designateddisease areas (with emphasis on functional GI disease) on a national,regional and local level. Work to expand research, advisory andeducational partnerships with opinion leaders. Promote scientificexchange with health care professionals and investigators through robustand balanced communication of leading disease state and treatmentinformation for designated disease areas (with emphasis on functional GIdisease). Present medical scientific information on Ironwoods marketedand pipeline products in various settings including advisory boards andpresentations to payers, formulary decision makers, and other healthcare professionals. Represent Ironwood at medical congresses andmeetings including contributing to meeting planning efforts ExpandIronwoods capabilities through training and communication of medicalscientific evidence generated within Ironwood and by externalinvestigators. Contribute to Ironwoods strategic business initiatives inthe areas of society collaborations, publications, investigatorinitiated trials, and educational grants. Key Performance Indicators:Establishes and continually evolves opinion leaders by identifying theirspecific areas of knowledge, experience and interest as a foundation forcollaboration. Advances clinical practice through opinion leaderinteraction. Able to network and partner with important externalcustomers in academic, institutional, managed care, key account andgovernmental settings. Ensures appropriate scientific exchange regardingIronwoods marketed and pipeline products in a timely, ethical, andcustomer focused manner. Internally, enhances corporate knowledge byproactively providing clinical and competitive information. Gainscustomer insights, opinions, and feedback, and engages with headquartersto connect business opportunities with internal resources. Effectivelybalances field and headquarters responsibilities; maximizes strategicand tactical impact by contributing to and integrating key effortsbetween Commercial Operations / Marketing and R&D. Ideal Background: MD,Pharm D, PhD, or equivalent with a background in gastrointestinal (GI)diseases and rare disease, and established expertise demonstrated by 5+years pharmaceutical industry experience.
