Description
Overview of the Role
The Asset Recovery Specialist will preserve the credit union's assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral. The Asset Recovery Specialist should be self-motivated, detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills. This position requires excellent communications skills, the ability to negotiate with a high degree of tact, the ability to build trust as well as support other member service functions as needed.
Requirements
Asset Recovery Specialist Responsibilities
Daily processing of Overdraft Protection reports, including placing calls to relevant members and sending appropriate notices as well as complete other overdraft protection duties as required
Assist with Asset Recovery functions including, but not limited to: sending out collection letters, interacting with attorneys, and initiating repossession orders
Make outbound collection calls to assigned delinquent accounts, correspond with members via letters and emails to encourage payment of assigned delinquent accounts
Take inbound calls from members that need assistance with making payments and motivate/influence members to bring their loans current by obtaining promises to pay
Process and post incoming mail as it relates to Asset Recovery
Scan Asset Recovery documents into the data processing system
Maintain accurate notes for files and reports on collections activity
Perform various clerical duties, including filing
Perform other related duties as assigned
Asset Recovery Specialist Expectations
Process Asset Recovery documents within the prescribed time frame
Provide support within the Asset Recovery department as requested
Assist in the maintenance of minimal delinquency rates
Ensure accuracy with all related functions
Provide superior member service at all times, including proper phone etiquette, ensuring member confidentiality and going above-and-beyond to make the member experience at GPO of the highest quality.
The ability to multi-task and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Keep the department supervisor informed regarding key department issues
Effectively communicate within the department to ensure the flow of ideas and information
Exercise sound judgement when making decisions as they relate to position duties and the credit union's policies and procedures
Asset Recovery Specialist Qualifications
One to three years of collections or similar experience. Experience in legal or banking fields a plus.
A notary public license is preferred but not required
A high school education or GED
Must have excellent communication and customer service skills
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, calculators and other data processing equipment.
Asset Recovery Specialist Physical Demands
Sitting for prolonged periods of time
Frequent computer usage and screen time
Frequent typing and use of fine motor skills
Actual compensation rate will be determined based on relevant experience.
