The Medical Director of clinic-based palliative care provides palliative healthcare in an outpatient environment. This position provides palliative medical consultations and services serving as a liaison between Community Hospice and the physician community. S/he also provides support of medical programs and service to the organization in support of goals and mission.

Position Details

  • Compensation: $120-140/hr
  • Hours Available: 6-10 hours per week total for patient visits and clinical admin/charting; additional hours available as program grows
  • Work Location: Florida Cancer Specialist, 6420 W Newberry Rd STE 100, Gainesville, FL 32605
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides timely consultation services in palliative care
  • Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultation, and education
  • Interviews patients and /or families, and obtains and records health histories, completes physical, psychological, and functional assessments
  • Writes physician's orders in accordance with legal, ethical, and organizational standards
  • Writing orders pertaining to informed consents
  • Provides complete and appropriate documentation of patient care services to support accurate billing of these services delivered and initiates reimbursement for services by the next business day
  • Prescribes medications as determined necessary
  • Facilitates clarification of patient and family goals of care
  • Consults with attending physician to establish a written plan of care at intervals specified in the plan
  • Ensure provision of informed consent for CPR and DNR
  • Provides oversight and guidance for ARNP/PAs
  • Facilitates access to appropriate supportive care services
  • Complies with applicable laws and regulations
  • Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization
Education & Licenses/Certifications:
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Florida
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy with two years' experience beyond board certification
Job Qualifications:
  • Willing to lead and or participate in palliative education
  • Current state medical license and in good standing with medical board
  • Controlled substance license with current DEA number
  • Eligible or currently possess a Medicare/Medicaid NPI number
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
