The Assistant Area Director, under the direction of the Regional Director, oversees the staff and daily operations of the offices and programs within the Southern Region as well as other programs and initiatives assigned. The Assistant Area Director is responsible for in excess of 40 staff members and resources in two offices and directly supervises five managers as well as some specific programmatic staff.\r\rThis is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\r POSITION DUTIES \r\r\r

Interprets and implements departmental policies, programs,\r

rules, regulations, standards, and controls within a designated geographical\r

area;\r\r\r

Schedules, plans, and conducts supervisory staff meetings to\r

direct supervisory professional staff in the implementation of departmental\r

policies procedures, and methods for dealing with local problems;\r\r\r

Directs the supervision of child and family casework through\r

regular case conferences and management meetings with Case Management Supervisors;\r\r\r

Provides direction to supervisory staff in handling difficult\r

cases and dealing with specific problems in the designated geographic area;\r\r\r

Manages the budget allocations for the operations of the field\r

services offices within the Montgomery County -Metro Region;\r\r\r

Directly supervises specific program components of enhanced\r

supervision and community-based programs in a specific geographical area within\r

field services.\r\r\r\r\r\r MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:Possession of a\rBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. \r\rNote: An Associate of Arts degree in the social or\rbehavioral sciences or criminal justice from an accredited college or\runiversity and three years of experience supervising case management staff may\rbe substituted for the required Bachelor’s degree.\r\rExperience:Five years of experience providing case management\rservices to emotionally or socially maladjusted, delinquent, victimized, or\rexceptional juveniles in a community or residential setting. Two years of this\rexperience must have involved the supervision of case management service\rstaff.\r\rNote:A\rMaster’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences or criminal justice from\ran accredited college or university and two years of experience supervising\rcase management staff may be substituted for one year of the required general\rexperience.\r LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION This recruitment is limited to current DJS employees\ronly.\r LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Employees in this classification may be assigned duties\rwhich require the operation of a motor vehicle.
