Overview

IDC Government Insights group is currently looking for a skilled Research Vice President to join the team to develop research and advisory services around technology topics for national governments worldwide. We are seeking an energetic and passionate member to add to our internationally recognized public sector research team.

The Research Vice President in the Worldwide National Government program is responsible for growing the client base, as well as supporting current clients, via advisory offerings and research services to government technology suppliers and national government agencies.

This is a relatively public role with client-facing and industry-facing responsibilities, but with primary responsibility for producing thought leadership research and actionable insights focused on how technology solutions are transforming national government, and what steps agency leaders must take to take full advantage of technologies to serve their mission.

This position can be remotely based out of an approved East Coast US location. Preferably in the DC/VA area.

Responsibilities

The Research Vice President will work with an international team of analysts to continue to build the reputation and the revenues of the advisory and custom research, and expand research into new, high interest areas. This role requires publishing a significant volume of research reports.

Sample research topics include:

  • The successful deployment and uses cases for GenAI, natural language processing (NLP), robotic process automation (RPA), machine and deep learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Cloud infrastructure and fundamentals for government digital transformation; the ongoing industry shift from applications to solutions and from platforms to outcomes
  • Digital and data sovereignty
  • Regional differences in adoption and deployment of technologies
  • The regulatory and compliance environment in the US and globally

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Managing a high-impact research agenda
  • Writing research reports
  • Acting as a trusted advisor for both government agencies and technology suppliers
  • Presenting at industry events
  • Helping with marketing activities to raise program visibility
  • Conducting business development and providing sales support
  • Engaging with clients on custom market research projects
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding published research and industry trends


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree. Master's degree a plus
  • Prior experience and knowledge of national governments, ideally to include familiarity with operations, the citizen experience, technology procurement processes, and agency-level initiatives, major regulations.
  • Thought leadership in technology in national government; able to communicate the importance of new ideas and technology trends to engage both senior level officials, executive management, and relevant partners.
  • 15+ years of related work experience in the field as an analyst and/ or in a related field, or with similar areas and levels of responsibility in the technology industry working with government customers.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with gleaning specific trends/findings in large datasets and have the ability to learn new research methodologies quickly.
  • Excellent writing and superior communication skills.
  • Familiarity, experience, and comfort with speaking/presenting to audiences including for webinar's and video formats.
  • Demonstrated ability in working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products is a must.
  • Given IDC's global customer base, experience with or in international work environments is helpful.
  • Ability to travel 10-15% of the time.

Salary range and additional compensation, including discretionary bonuses and incentive pay, are determined by a rigorous review process. This process considers the experience, education, certifications, and skills required for the specific role, equity with similarly situated employees, as well as employer-verified US region-specific market data provided by an independent 3rd party partner. The expected total annual compensation, depending on location and experience, is between $170,000 and $185,000 and is inclusive of base salary and variable compensation (if applicable).
