Overview

RES is accepting applications for a mid-level Ecological Restoration Scientist with 3+ years of relevant work experience to provide broad environmental support to a team of environmental restoration and mitigation professionals. You will be working on mitigation banks, permittee-responsible mitigation projects (PRMs), and other types of ecological restoration and green-initiative projects. The primary projects within your scope of work are situated in the northern region of South Carolina. As a result, you can choose to reside anywhere between Charlotte, NC, and Charleston, SC. Regular site visits will be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

This role entails a variable balance split between field and office work, with approximately 70-80% of time spent in the office and 20-30% in the field. These ratios may vary from week to week but will generally be applicable overall. Occasional overnight travel within the state of South Carolina is expected, averaging around four weeks per year, with RES providing a pool vehicle or mileage reimbursement, accommodation, and meals. The ability to travel several days per month is necessary, with some overnight stays needed. Additionally, the ability to traverse 2 to 5 miles outdoors across various wetlands and rugged terrains under potentially adverse conditions is required.

The responsibilities would include performing all aspects of fieldwork, collecting, and organizing data, coordinating and conducting success criteria monitoring, coordinating site maintenance and repairs as needed, writing technical reports and mitigation plans, and preparing permit applications.

Qualifications

We’d like to talk with you if you have the following:

  • B.S. in an environmental science-related field (such as but not limited to ecology, forestry, botany, geology, soils, etc.)
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in the environmental, ecological, and/or mitigation development fields, with associated regulatory permitting experience, including 401/404 permitting.
  • Demonstrable technical writing skills (we might ask for a writing sample during the interview process)
  • ArcGIS proficiency

What will make you stand out?

  • Direct experience with stream mitigation project approvals
  • Mitigation Banking Instrument and/or Permittee-Responsible Mitigation Plan preparation
  • Wetland delineation following U.S. Army Corps of Engineers protocols
  • Stream and wetland restoration design and construction experience
  • Stream parameter monitoring experience
  • State and federal endangered species programs
  • AutoCAD proficiency
  • ArcGIS/Pro proficiency
  • Ability to plan and coordinate fieldwork and lead field scientist/ecologist teams
  • Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Professional in Training Certification
