Overview

This position is in the Neurology Department’s Balance Disorders Laboratory and the person will be responsible for research subject recruitment, scheduling study data collection sessions, assisting data collection/analysis, and data management. This position will primarily focus on ongoing projects related to treatments for Parkinson’s disease (effects of different interventions, such as rehabilitation and medications/ deep brain stimulation).

Research participants in these studies are older adults, so the ability to interact patiently and respectfully with elderly volunteers is essential. This position requires innate motivation and independent performance of complex and detail-oriented duties while working closely with investigators and other study staff. Take the lead in subject recruitment and scheduling for active studies, assist leading data collection in the laboratory and clinic. Other duties include prepping materials and participants for test sessions; equipment set-up; standing by/walking with subject to prevent falls during mobility assessments; administering clinical tests and questionnaires; assisting with basic post-processing of data; organization of physical study documentation and data collection forms; and electronic data entry and upkeep.

Additional duties include managing electronic organization of shared laboratory files; purchase card reconciliations; scheduling meetings and seminars; participating in monthly clinical trials coordinator meetings and weekly team meetings; and fostering recruitment efforts by engaging with off-site clinics and community organizations and helping at educational outreach events.

Exercises judgment within defined Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA guidelines to determine appropriate action via reporting mechanisms and structures (Institutional Review Board) in recognizing adverse events, protocol deviations, and other unanticipated study problems and reports to senior staff appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s in relevant field, OR Associate’s AND 2 years of relevant experience, OR 3 years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Working knowledge of scientific method and human subjects research
  • Intermediate and experienced knowledge of Word, Excel, and other MS Office programs
  • High level of technological proficiency
  • Excellent eye to detail and organization skills; self-starter; ability to prioritize work demands and manage time appropriately; demonstrated high level of organization and ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly, and demonstrate a high level of professionalism; ability to interact patiently and respectfully with elderly volunteers


Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Movement Science/Kinesiology fields
  • Experience with REDCap database
  • Experience in human subject research
  • Clinical research coordination experience
  • Experience working with seniors or people with disabilities
  • CPR/BLS certification
