Job Purpose:

The Machine Operator I is responsible for knowing how the equipment works in order to setup, breakdown, and maintain; as well as being able to identify and repair simple mechanical issues. This position monitors equipment performance and workflow to meet production goals and maintain quality standards including accurate completion of all production documentation. Additionally, this role is responsible for encouraging staff compliance with Safety and Quality procedures.


Essential Functions include the following.


· Responsible for the operation of production machines including setup, changeover, and breakdown while following all operating procedures and following safety guidelines. May be required to assist with machinery in other areas or departments.

· Understand and interpret settings and gauges on equipment including identifying and adjusting to ensure product quality is maintained at all times.

· Complete all paperwork pertaining to the line and product being run this includes understanding and identifying product codes and labels, ability to add, subtract, and multiply, plus read, comprehend, and carry out instructions. Additionally, this also includes using a computer or scan gun to accurately process consumptions.

· Follow and enforce all GMP, lock out-tag out (LOTO), safety and all other company policies and procedures.

· Support production workers and staff in various production related tasks.

· Works within parameters of established production standards.

· Must maintain quality of finished product per specifications.

· Maintains and cleans production area as needed.

· Required to gain working knowledge of other areas

· The person in this position is committed to assuring that Stella & Chewy's, LLC produces safe, legal and wholesome pet food products that meet our consumer's expectations.

· Other duties may be assigned as necessary.


Machine Operator I Requirements:


· Understands 1 Machine/Production Line

· Basic Functionality with understanding of SOP (eStops, start/stop, setup/teardown, line functionality (including all supplemental machines), scale product, understand recipes, Checkware, etc.)

· Basic problem identification (knowing when to escalate)

· Understands consumption (know the importance of accurate process, not necessarily how to physically do the scanning)

· Promotes basic Safety (People & Food)

· Knows basic 5S

· Understands importance of Safety and Quality

· Completes checklist for machine

. Must be able to communicate fluently in English or Spanish

· High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required.

· Previous machine operation preferred, food industry a plus.

· Must pass the Lock Out-Tag Out (LOTO) test and maintain qualifications.

· Ability to understand, identify and interpret settings and gauges on equipment, codes, and labels.

· Required to work overtime as needed including weekends and possibly holidays.


Physical Requirements:


· Required standing for long periods of time and moving throughout the assigned area.

· Performs continuous repetitive motions.

· Use of hands for simple/firm grasping.

· Frequently bending/stooping and reaching below waist and shoulder level.

· Occasionally lifting/carrying product weighing up to approximately 60 pounds.

· Occasionally kneeling/pushing/pulling/and walking.

· Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times out on the production floor.


Environmental Conditions:


· Constant exposure to temperatures as low as 45 degrees above and/or below. Occasional exposure to temperature below -10 degrees.

· Constant exposure to ozone purification system.

· Exposure to small amounts of diluted cleaning chemicals.

· Working in a cold, damp, and wet environment on a daily basis.
