Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Institute on Aging (IOA) is a multidisciplinary unit within the College of Urban and Public Affairs : https://www.pdx.edu/institute-on-aging/

Research, training and community services relevant to aging and older adults are planned, implemented and facilitated at the Institute. The faculty and staff consist of three full-time faculty members, one full-time administrative assistant, two full-time research associates and two part-time senior research associates, a number of adjunct faculty with teaching and/or research responsibilities, work-study student office help and several other academically-appointed research staff and graduate students working on time-limited grant projects.

The IOA is a major resource to local, state and national organizations, is involved in graduate and undergraduate training at the master and doctoral levels and coordinates numerous other gerontology-related activities within the community. The IOA is responsible for multiple grants and the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology Program, as well as the Senior Adult Learning Center and the Oregon Geriatric Education Center. A new undergraduate certificate and a track in aging services within the Health Studies major are proposed. The mission of the IOA is to enhance understanding of aging and facilitate opportunities for elders, families, and communities to thrive.
Position Summary
The person in this position will work closely with leadership to support the work of the new Oregon Center for Excellence in Behavioral Health & Aging (OCEBHA). The person in this position will report directly to the Associate Director and Director of OCEBHA. This position is renewable past 9/30/25 depending on funding.

Position duties include:
a) provide administrative and program support to the OCEBHA leadership team and other staff of the Center.
b) track and assist with OCEBHA operating accounts.
c) use a central filing system for tracking OCEBHA activities and programs, including expenditures, contracts, and personnel.
d) assist with hiring staff.
e) serve as a liaison to other University departments, including HR and Payroll.
f) maintain the OCEBHA website.
g) work with team to develop social media content for the Center.
h) manage social media accounts.
i) work with OCEBHA staff to develop and send a quarterly newsletter to community partners.
j) other duties to be assigned as needed to support the OCEBHA operations.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.

Note:
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain and update a websote
  • Ability to utilize and create content on social media platforms
  • Experience scheduling large meetings with community partners

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $17.24 and $19.29 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
