Job Description


The accounting adviser oversees the day-to-day electric accounting and reporting functions for MidAmerican Energy Company. Responsibilities include oversight of the energy adjustment clauses and rider calculations including preparation of annual filings, written and oral testimony and responses to regulatory data requests. Prepares monthly journal entries and numerous generation expense, statistic and production cost reports; reviews budgets and forecasts and analyzes variances in actual financial results; calculates the average and excess jurisdictional allocation factor; conducts financial and business related studies including the facility and overhead loading rate calculations that directly impact the company's joint owners; reviews and maintains internal controls for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements; provides leadership role in special projects related to changes in accounting, procedures and policies and works interactively with external auditors in the context of the annual audit and internal controls testing.


Responsibilities


Oversee the activities associated with the day-to-day electric accounting and reporting functions including prioritization of responsibilities, accounting guidance, preparation, coordination and review of regulatory data and internal/external audit requests, implementation of new/revised accounting standards, procedures, and/or internal controls and cross-training support. (25%)

Compile and prepare information for regulatory filings and financial reporting, including testimony associated with the annual energy adjustment clauses and the MidAmerican Funding, LLC monthly management report. (20%)

Prepare numerous monthly journal entries including all energy adjustment clause over/under calculations and supporting entries and is responsible for the calculation of the average and excess jurisdictional allocator for both budget and actual. (15%)

Report, analyze and interpret financial, regulatory and operating data for management and corporate functions. Such reporting analysis and interpretation may include product margin, cost analysis, profitability analysis, regional geographic assessments, pricing analysis, and any other ad-hoc analysis of interest to management and business unit leaders. (10%)

Review joint plant results including common plant allocations, joint owner billings and the annual facility and generation overhead loading rate study and true-up. (10%)

Provide accounting assistance to personnel and various departments throughout the organization. (5%) Oversee documentation of internal controls and related Sarbanes Oxley requirements. (5%)

Present results of research and analyses and provide recommendations in written and verbal presentation formats. Use PC based systems and software to compile and prepare reports, graphs, and charts of data developed to include in presentations. (5%)

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business; master of business administration or certified public accountant preferred.

Seven years of related experience, including two years in a senior technical/leadership role. Superior research and analytical skills with experience in financial and regulatory analyses.

Advanced leadership skills to provide direction and guidance to individuals and/or teams toward the achievement of goals.

Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop and conduct presentations.

Strong project management skills; the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, DB2 and PowerPoint; demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications for analysis.
