WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Dickinson Hall is currently looking for a service-oriented, self-starting, creative, and compassionate Program Assistant. Individuals in this position must be professional, reliable, have a strong desire to connect with the senior community, be able to switch gears at a moment's notice and possess a warm sense of hospitality.

Day in the life: Dickinson Hall is a dynamic community senior center primarily serving residents from the Lake Forest & Lake Bluff area. Programs and services designed to enrich the lives of older adults and support independence are offered primarily Monday through Friday. Programs take place at Dickinson Hall, a landmark building on the Grove Cultural Campus. Day trips throughout the greater Chicagoland and Milwaukee area are also planned.

Examples of Duties

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing and managing the Dickinson Hall Walking Group and Art Wall.
  • Work in conjunction with the Program Supervisor to:
    1. Execute programs and events, including but not limited to introducing lectures, setting tables, serving food, and all aspects of clean-up
    2. Develop and implement new programs and activities
    3. Chaperone 10 to 20 seniors on day trips 1 to 4 times per month
    4. Coordinate the use of Dickinson Hall's spaces
  • Provide exceptional customer service to members and visitors
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • The ability to prioritize deadlines, possess good computer skills and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Essential personal qualities including patience, friendliness and flexibility.
  • The willingness to take on unexpected tasks.
  • The willingness and ability to work occasional nights & weekends. Current programming is scheduled for 5 evenings per year.
Requirements:
  • Experience in hospitality a plus.
  • This position is a 15-20 hour/week position with the expectation that the days and hours will shift based on programming needs.
  • Applicants MUST be 18 years of age or older.
