Description: Job Summary:Performs initial work-up and specialized examinations of the eye as directed by ophthalmologist. Assists Ophthalmologist with clinical examination and surgical procedures as directed.Essential Responsibilities:Interviews each patient to obtain information about symptoms and documents information provided by patient in medical record.Follows established protocol to determine the appropriate tests to perform based on patients description of symptoms and personal inspection of eye.Uses specialized equipment to test patients vision and condition.Provides test results to ophthalmologist and brings attention to abnormal conditions.Assists the ophthalmologist in the clinical examination of the eye and in surgical procedures as directed.Applies eye dressings and protective shields as directed.Documents examination results and treatments in patient file.Cleans and maintains specialized equipment and work areas.Attends patients requiring emergency care and alerts ophthalmologist to their condition.Performs other related duties as directed. - Must be able to adjust schedule based on urgent needs- Must be able to travel between NOVA centers based on business needsBasic Qualifications:ExperienceOne (1) year of experience working as a optometric technician/assistant with practical experience in performing visual acuity, lensometry (manual and automatic), applanation tonometry, pupil testing, checking anterior chamber angles, Humphrey Visual Field testing, and OCT testing required.Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.EducationHigh School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.Formal course in Ophthalmology or military training required.License, Certification, RegistrationCorporate Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (JCAHPO) from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personel in OpthomologyBasic Life SupportAdditional Requirements:Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software required.Successful demonstration of skill evaluation at time of interview required.Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.Preferred Qualifications:At least one year of experience in the Ophthalmology clinical settingMust be able to pass practical evaluation to show evidence of skills Primary Location: Virginia,McLean,Tyson's Corner Medical Center Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Shift: Day Workdays: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri Working Hours Start: 08:30 AM Working Hours End: 05:00 PM Job Schedule: Full-time Job Type: Standard Employee Status: Regular Employee Group/Union Affiliation: M40OPEIULocal 2 Job Level: Individual Contributor Department: Tysons Corner Medical Center - Ophthalmology - 1808 Pay Range: $27.21 - $31.94 / hour Sign on bonus: $5000.00 The ranges posted above reflect the location in the job posting.
