Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Percent of Time Spent:

Reviews purchase requests for assigned material or components and verifies nomenclature, specifications, and accounting codes. Sources components or services from approved supplier list, evaluates RFQ’s (Request for Quote), negotiates price, quality, and delivery, selects supplier and places purchase orders in conformance to local and Corporate Operating Procedures and Ethical Codes of Conduct.

Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities to achieve yearly cost reduction targets.

Ensures invoices are matched and paid to purchase orders, at proper payment terms, in a timely manner. Manage vendor relationships to avoid/remove credit holds.

Works with product teams or other procurement staff to generate Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) for new or modified parts. Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information. Research and sources suppliers for new items.

Analyzes and evaluates quotes for new or modified parts, components, or equipment. May negotiate price and delivery. Selects vendor and creates purchase order for new items according to current and local operating procedures. Supports sourcing initiatives and other cost saving measures.

Tracks computerized procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, on-time delivery, quality, and performance. Assists in identifying, evaluating, and qualifying new suppliers and/or subcontractors and prepares documentation to recommend adding to approved supplier list pursuant to local Operating Procedures.

Maintains and updates planning parameters for purchased materials on a continuous basis. Contributes to PFEP (Plan For Every Part) goals.

Expedites delivery by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure that merchandise, supplies, and equipment arrive as scheduled with an appropriate lead time.

Occasional Responsibilities:

Provides suggestions to improve customer service, inventory, quality, and financial performance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Travel:

Occasional travel for vendor visits related to quality, negation, and qualifications. Some travel for corporate needs and/or training.



Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in food or meat science.

Self-motivated team player who is not afraid to take on a challenge in a difficult market.

Significant autonomy and initiative are required to investigate customer needs and our opportunity to identify solutions.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Experience:

Prefer at least 1-3 year’s technical and commercial experience in the meat industry. Experience in a meat lab, internship in meat industry and/or a master's degree in Meat Science will satisfy experience requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Work Environment: Majority of the work is in a factory type environment and/or a food processing technology and training center. Working conditions are as those found in process plants where massaging and marination and cured meat equipment is used. Conditions at customer sites may be slippery or have obstructions to walking.

Travel can be up to 80% of the time and not restricted to the North American Region. First year must live in Sandusky, OH. After one year, can live anywhere in US close to major airport.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Physical demands as would be found in factory work. Heavy lifting is not routinely required.
