Animal Care Technician I



Job Summary

Provides animal care to laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, enrichment, health observations and basic medical treatments. Performs cage cleaning and facility sanitization procedures in accorance with standard operating procedures and maintains timely and accurate documentation.


Essential Functions

The incumbent will provide support for the husbandry staff (SNARL) in the Systems Neuroscience Center. Incumbent will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing associated areas such as hallways, surgical suites, procedure rooms, kitchens, doing dishes, storage areas, etc. within the animal care facility following IACUC standards. The incumbent will prepare food by mixing chow, cutting fruit and preparing diet supplements. The incumbent will be responsible for taking inventory of food/lab/PPE supplies and placing orders. Vaccinations and TB testing will be required.


Physical Effort

Requires daily strenuous physical activity – lifting of 50 pounds, bending, standing for long periods, pushing/pulling equipment.
