About the Position:
Leads the Complex Construction Group responsible for the execution of all complex gas construction projects across the US Jurisdictions. Develop a consistent approach to managing safety and reducing risk across all complex construction disciplines. Ensures adherence to standards and best practices for pipeline construction in accordance with regulatory and National Grid requirements.
The Complex Construction organization provides overall field oversight to contractors performing construction services ensuring compliance with safety policies, construction procedures and work methods. Reviews work progress to determine payments to contractors. Negotiate payments for field changes due to out of scope work in accordance with contract terms and conditions.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Within the Construction function support the VP of Project Management and Complex Construction to recruit, motivate and develop the construction team in order to maximize flexibility and effectiveness and promote positive team working and cultural change.
Identify and ensure completion of construction skills training program for staff focused on transmission pipeline construction and latest PHMSA requirements.
Establish and manage key performance targets and financial budgets in order to optimize business performance in line with set objectives.
Develop and implement process improvements and review policies relevant to construction operations.
Organization is responsible for the constructability review of proposed facilities and/ or changes to existing facilities in order to ensure project can be built as intended.
Organization provides contractor oversight to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions. Ensure that contract changes are thoroughly reviewed and documented to ensure work is delivered within budget
Ensure complex gas transmission, distribution, LNG and CNG projects are planned, resourced and scheduled in a timely and cost effective manner in order to ensure best value for National Grid.
Understand inherent project risks and evaluate regulatory requirements and SHE standards in order to determine potential impact on National Grid.
Actively engage with SHE in order to plan, manage and implement appropriate policies in line with regulatory requirements.
Ensure the execution of the work is performed in a way that satisfies the required safety and technical standards and meets budgetary targets,
Ensure the Process Safety risk control standards are fully addressed in project execution plans.
Ensure sufficient capability to deliver the increasing workload and delivering the program in a performance driven and sustainable manner.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience. Master’s degree is a plus.
15 years minimum of operations management experience in Gas Transmission, Distribution and LNG disciplines.
In-depth knowledge of the construction techniques associated with the gas transmission pipeline, LNG and CNG energy industry sector.
Experience managing multi-faceted projects simultaneously.
Strong administrative, organizational and well developed problem solving skills.
Well developed written and communication skills, ability to present and explain key findings.
Proven ability to think creatively and outside the box to overcome complex business challenges. Ability to take an idea and create a robust analysis/solution.
Negotiate terms of agreements among multiple diverse stakeholders
Strong presentation, negotiation, and communication skills
Manage personnel to optimize their development, growth, and contribution.
Demonstrates the ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to deliver high performance.
Demonstrates the ability to build an independent opinion of customer needs, problems and/or opportunities and design appropriate solutions.
