About the Position:
The Advanced Grid Engineering team is responsible for the technical development of innovative strategies, programs, and demonstration projects that will help modernize the electric T&D system, enhance reliable operations, expand capabilities in information transfer with customers and lead to the development of a cost-effective world-class electric network that will meet increasing customer expectations.
Job Description: Seeking engineers with experience in power transmission and distribution technologies, as well as experience managing both large and small projects. Desired candidates will be self-starters, but will also be asked to collaborate, mentor, and learn from the large group.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Evaluate emerging technologies, innovative industry practices and trends, and take account of the risks associated with new technology on the T&D electric system
Develop projects from start to finish. Obtain broad stakeholder engagement, develop and present project scope, collaborate execution with operations, perform analysis, and propagate results throughout the company.
Communicate progress and status of projects to key stakeholders with regular cadence.
Analyze and review cost implications and impacts on work practices/safety. Advise asset owners, planners, operations and investment planning accordingly
As assigned, evaluate specific government energy policy, legislation, and emerging system operating compliance rules in order to determine probable impact on National Grid's asset and reliability strategies.
Build and nurture relationships with industry peers and other external industry influencers to keep abreast of technical innovations and their potential benefits.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Experience creating new ways to plan and operate the electric supply and distribution systems using advanced analytics, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
Understand the opportunities for National Grid inherent in emerging technologies and technical practices. Demonstrate the ability to create new concepts or solutions that are not always obvious to others.
Understand underlying problems, opportunities, and external political forces which affect the feasibility of technical enhancements in the industry.
Demonstrate strong influencing skills with the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audiences.
Ability to manage small and large projects, working with external group resources, scheduling, and delivering results.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school required. Advanced degrees, industry experience, and professional engineering registration are preferred.
Promote team effectiveness by soliciting input from team members, communicating expectations, and delegating responsibilities while providing support and structure
Take personal responsibility for work products while providing effective technical support to the Field and collaboratively correcting problems promptly and professionally.
