Database Engineer (Job Number:420054)



Establishes database management systems, standards, requirements, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design and architecture, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy. Specific responsibilities of the Database Engineer include working with clients to translate business requirements into a logical model that will accurately support and represent the client’s entity relationship and flow of data including: developing the appropriate database framework to convert the logical model into a physical model including the creation and maintenance of schemas containing windows, screens, tables and columns and reports that support the model; and making recommendations to maximize operating efficiency, support storage requirements and vendor software updates, enforce data governance, ensure recovery is maintained. Also, participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment.

Database engineers are responsible for the daily availability and performance of SQL Server databases and database servers that provide Salesforce Marketing Cloud's industry leading solutions. A successful Database engineers at Salesforce Marketing Cloud works well under pressure, takes direction well, and relies on extensive experience and judgment to proactively implement, configure, tune, and monitor Salesforce Marketing Cloud's application databases.

- Develop robust automation solutions for the DBA team to reduce manual, repetitive processes. This will include, but is not limited to: installations, baselining, security, database moves, DTUs, disaster recovery, alerting, and data warehouse data collection and analysis.
- Several of these automations will require knowledge of multiple development disciplines (command line, databases, Windows OS, etc), as well as an understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Handle daily alerts for backup failures, performance problems, SQL failures, patching, etc.
- Participate in monitoring daily ticket queue
- Participate in 24/7 DBA on-call rotation

Required Education and Skills:

- Bachelors’ Degree with 6-10 years’ experience
- Requirements Planning, Software Design, Code Construction, Unit and Integration Testing, Code Debugging and Maintenance
- Technical proficiency with PowerShell 4.0
- C# for application and Web development
Preferred Education and Skills:

- Bachelors’ Degree with 6-10 years’ experience
- Full understanding of SQL Server backup and recovery procedures, service broker, and clustering. Experience working with large, highly available, and/or high-transaction databases.
- Full understanding of SQL Server security and our particular implementation. Other SQL issues as needed.
- Working knowledge of production environment as well as ability to quickly troubleshoot issues and work to a quick resolution.
- Soft Skills: problem solving and critical thinking, working well under pressure
