Manager – IMP -Gas Transmission Integrity Management Program
About the Department:
Gas Transmission Engineering provides strategic direction for the Operations and Management (O&M) and capital expenditures on National Grid’s gas transmission pipelines. Utilizing the latest state-of-the-art inspection and damage prevention technologies, including Inline Inspection and robotic inspection vehicles, we are able to monitor, test, and inspect these pipelines; greatly reducing the risk of pipeline operation. We also employ metallurgy, risk modelling, failure analysis, and non-destructive testing tools. We are proud to be the first company to have used a “Hot Tap Fitting” to launch a free swimming inspection vehicle. With pipeline operational accountability across all US National Grid operating companies our team members work closely with many other groups to perform in-office technical activities as well as field work such as inspections, repairs, and problem solving. Gas Transmission Engineering ensures that National Grid’s pipelines are functioning safely and efficiently today, tomorrow, next year, and decades from now.
About the Position
Perform analyses to develop strategies and plans and oversee their execution to enable National Grid to build and maintain a safe, reliable, compliant, and robust gas transmission system and optimize the return on investment (ROI) from assets. Implement and coordinate the IMP (Integrity Management Program) in accordance with applicable Federal and State rules and regulations.
Lead, motivate and develop a cross-functional professional team in implementing the IMP (Integrity Management Program); prioritize work and allocate resources in order to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and business objectives.
Optimize project costs by managing risk, meeting regulatory obligations, and delivering transmission performance.
Prepare informed, authoritative, technical plans and projections for maintenance (O&M) of and capital investment in assets to improve business performance in the medium term (up to five years) including estimates to level 1 accuracy.
Lead and direct technical response to operational issues on the Gas Transmission System.
Translate IMP program requirements into clearly defined business cases, budgets, and an assessment of the risks and impact on rate case development to facilitate the mid and long-term planning processes and develop business strategies.
Evaluate regulatory governance standards relevant to gas distribution, and engage in regulatory processes to influence (as warranted) pending legislation and regulations and develop processes and plans to ensure compliance (e.g. Transmission Integrity Management Program)
·Must have a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
·A Professional Engineering (PE) License is also required
Advanced degree and/or NACE and AWS certification a plus.
In-depth technical knowledge of and experience with gas transmission systems and expertise on the issues currently impacting the energy sector typically acquired by a minimum of 7 (seven) years’ experience in progressively responsible related roles involving the technical analysis of gas networks and implementation of prescribed technical and regulatory processes.
Demonstrated Technical industry bona fides and credentials typically established by academic and conference presentations, white papers, leadership involvement in related professional associations, etc.
Demonstrated people leadership and management skills.
