Job Purpose
Establish and Manage engineering and design of complex construction projects relating to the gas transmission and distribution networks to enable the cost effective renewal and expansion of network capacity in line with business, customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
·Establish strategy, and implement enterprise wide standards for engineering design tools and packages to support the consistent, reliable and cost effective delivery of NYC project objectives.
·Ensure all NYC complex projects are appropriately assessed, designed, planned, resourced and scheduled in a timely and cost effective manner in order to ensure best value for National Grid.
·Make authoritative technical recommendations in order to provide design solutions which harness new technology and techniques and have a significant impact on business performance in the short and longer term.
·Negotiate and agree contracts with third parties/suppliers including standards of work / levels of service to ensure best value for National Grid.
·Plan, Manage, and work with Operations to implement pressure uprating of all Transmission and Distribution pipeline and facilities to maintain a reliable network and ensure potential hazards are managed safely and effectively.
·Translate infrastructure requirements into clearly defined business cases, budgets, and an assessment of the impact on rate case development and risks to facilitate the planning process and develop strategies to mitigate risk.
·Lead, motivate and develop a professional team, prioritize work, promote safe working practices and allocate resources in order to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and customer/business objectives.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
·Is recognized as a ‘go-to’ person within the engineering design and project planning fields and demonstrates the ability to collaborate within and across National Grid.
·Demonstrates the ability to translate National Grid policies into processes and procedures and peel back multiple layers of a problem and balance the value of different solutions; understands how best to utilize them in order to drive greater performance, taking into account the wider business context.
·Experience of managing customer, regulatory and supplier relationships and demonstrates the ability to build an independent opinion of customer needs, problems and/or opportunities and design appropriate solutions.
·Experience of managing and integrating the work of a functional team/business unit and demonstrates the ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to deliver high performance.
·A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or science required and Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred.
·Deep practical and theoretical knowledge of SHE policies and potential hazards relevant to the gas network.
·Ability to negotiate and manage commercial contracts with third parties and suppliers.
·Detailed practical knowledge of operational procedures affecting the gas business.
·Mminimum of eight years’ experience in a number of roles involving the technical analysis of gas networks and implementation of prescribed technical and regulatory processes.
·Experience of managing the work of a technical functional area and demonstrates taking specific actions to enable the team to function efficiently and effectively.
