Building on the decision to open a regional office in Manchester, KBR wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and results-oriented Business Development Director. This opportunity will continue the successful growth of KBR in the UK, in conjunction with the Government’s agenda for growth across the North of England. Key market sectors include, but are not limited to: energy, infrastructure, and Government.

Reporting to the Regional Director in the North, the successful applicant will take the lead responsibility for developing specific opportunities in Programme and Project Management, support services and engineering.

The task will be to develop a pipeline of opportunity by building relationships with current and prospective clients, gaining an in-depth understanding of their development needs, and positioning KBR to match their requirements. For each specific pursuit, the Business Development Director will work with a designated Bid Director/Manager and Project Director/Manager to take opportunities from initial identification through to contract award. The appointment will be within the Government Services EMEA Business unit but the candidate will be expected to interface with all of KBR’s business units.

Opportunities for growth will also include acquisition targets that are aligned to the strategic objectives of the Business unit.

The primary target market will be the North of the UK but, depending on how the company’s overall strategy develops, this may extend nationally or to other locations in the Europe/Africa/Middle East region. The ability to travel throughout the UK and overseas will therefore be required.

The Candidate:

Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport quickly then develop long-term relationships with the potential to generate high quality business opportunities.

A self-starter who is able to work with minimum supervision when interfacing with clients but who is also able to work with a pursuit team to develop complex bids.

Well-developed commercial acumen enabling the most attractive opportunities to be identified and then shaped by influencing the client’s thinking.

In-depth knowledge of Programme and Project Management with established key contacts among potential clients and partners at the senior management level.

Previous positions are likely to have provided a broad range of Government and/or private sector Programme and Project Management experience (i.e. multi-sector).

A good understanding of typical contract terms and an appreciation of the associated technical and commercial risk/reward profile.

Several years’ experience in business development with a demonstrable track record of successfully securing profitable contracts.

Likely to be working for a consultant or contractor in the Government or private sectors but, alternatively, may come from a client company.

Able to travel in the UK and overseas.

A technical or business degree and a good command of the English language.
