About the Position:
Supports the Advanced Data & Analytics Team in achieving the company’s business, regulatory, financial and operational goals.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Work with the Advanced Data & Analytics Team to establish, document, distribute, defend and analyze all gas load and peak load forecasts and supporting analyses.
Work collaboratively to perform advanced quantitative simulation studies to support decisions on the expansion of the gas distribution grid and the purchase and/or construction of gas pipelines and storage assets.
Conduct strategic analysis of corporate plans relative to natural gas supply procurement and potential impacts associated with emerging technologies & legislation such energy efficiency, performing ad hoc gas usage, load and peak load studies and/or market simulations as requested.
Prepare and write relevant documentation in order that all stakeholders are fully informed and all evidence or statistics are documented.
Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
Build upon technical/professional skills within own area of specialism or of other processes in order to continually grow your personal contribution to the business.
Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid.
Monitor and review work undertaken by team in order to provide feedback on the appropriate use of materials, tools, equipment or resources and adherence to schedules.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Masters or PhD degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics or Computer Science is preferred.
Relevant natural gas industry experience in a regulated setting with direct interaction with regulators preferred.
3-5 years of statistical analysis, modeling and simulation experience, preferably dealing with large data sets.
Expertise in the SQL database language and the ability to program in R and/or Matlab are absolute requirements and will be tested in the interview process.
Knowledge of the natural gas industry preferred specifically of pipeline, storage and distribution system concepts as well as experience in the natural gas industry in New York and New England.
Highly motivated and have the ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills in order to coordinate their effort with other members of the team and to provide management with concise, well supported recommendations on important projects.
Ability to interact with multiple levels of management, various departments within the company as well as external customers including regulators, market operators and other market participants is critical.
Ability to see multiple relationships between different sources of data, identifying several likely causes or consequences of a situation.
