About the Position:
Supervises and directs employees in the standards lab, rubber goods/dielectric test lab, gas meter test lab, electric meter lab or engineering lab, to ensure gas and electric operations are in compliance with regulatory standards. The holder is additionally responsible for the daily supervision and organization of assigned operations personnel in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and National Grid requirements.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Monitor performance of allocated staff including issues relating to sickness, discipline and poor standards of work in order to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and effectively.
Manages the purchase and inventory levels of all equipment and metering devices in associated labs in accordance with regulatory requirements and National Grid financial planning.
Contribute to the protection of the public and organizational personnel by ensuring all materials, standards and procedures are in line with National Grid safety policies and processes.
Act as the first point of contact for multiple internal stakeholders and outside agencies in order to provide support and ensure National Grid deliver against service level agreements.
Manage system changes and enhancement requests for MITS, or any other lab software packages for applicable labs to ensure they are in line with needs and requirements.
Plans, directs and prioritizes the objectives and activities of in-house resources to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with electric and gas operations, customer metering services and engineering departments in order to facilitate and support any dependencies in work processes.
Manage business, vendor and consultant contracts and relationships in order to ensure everyone is informed and aware of changes to contracts, schedules and decisions taken.
Manage pick for test and sample testing of gas and electric meters for mandatory meter filing where applicable.
Manages testing process of gas and electric operations equipment, tools and commodities.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
A Bachelor's degree in a related area and up to 3 years' of related experience, in electric or gas operations in a supervisory or leadership role.
Technically proficient with applicable lab subject matter.
Experience of leading a team involved in transactional operations services.
Must have a good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area.
Working knowledge of operations lines of business associated with lab.
Good understanding of National Grid's labor practices along with the relevant policies and processes.
