PRIMARY PURPOSE Responsible for primary health care issues for patients seen by the Psychiatric Emergency Department, with regard to patient histories, exams, diagnoses, treatment, education and referrals to ensure optimal patient medical management consistent with the Parkland mission of patient centered/patient valued care. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS Education: -Must have completed a post-graduate or graduate level Nurse Practitioner educational program accredited by a national nursing education accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Board of Nursing. -Must have a Master's degree in Nursing. Experience: -Must have three years of advanced practice clinical experience in Psychiatry Mental Health or five years of advanced practice clinical experience. Equivalent Experience: -If hired at Parkland before March 1, 2014, may have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification/Registration/Licensure: -Must have current, valid RN licensure from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license. -Must have current license from the Texas Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with authorization to practice as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH) or as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist with prescriptive authority. -Must have active certification as a PMH Nurse Practitioner or PMH Clinical Nurse Specialist by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). - Must have current CPR-Healthcare Provider (CPR-HP) certification. from one of the following: o American Heart Association o American Red Cross Rescuer o Military Training Network. -Must have Satori Alternative to Managing Aggression (SAMA) levels 1-4 or must obtain within 30 days of hire or placement into the job. Must have SAMA certification before first clinical orientation shift. -Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures, if any. Skills or Special Abilities: -Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards. -Must be able to function independently and as a member of the Parkland healthcare team. -Must have effective written and verbal communication skills in working with a diverse population of patients and families, nurses, physicians and community agencies. -Must have knowledge and skill in educating patients and families. -Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
