Position Summary


Transports freight as instructed in a safe, orderly, and legal manner.  Assures the timely and accurate pick-up and delivery of products and the protection of those products in-transit.  Represents the Company in a professional manner with all customers, suppliers, warehouses, and other outside shippers.  Inspects and assures compliance with State, Federal, ICC, and DOT requirements with regard to the safety of the equipment, the safe operation of the equipment, proper hours of service and maintaining logs.


Basic Responsibilities and Accountabilities


  1. Transports freight in a safe, orderly, and timely manner as scheduled and instructed by the Transportation Department, assuring scheduled deliver/pickup appointments are met.
  2. Notifies the Transportation Department of any delays or problems that will effect the proper servicing of customers (i.e., delays of any kind, equipment breakdowns, wrong product, damaged product, overages or shortages, hours of service problems, etc.).
  3. Assures pick-up and delivery of correct products and quantities in good condition.  Makes certain of proper loading and safety of the product in transit.
  4. Follows the Federal DOT regulations for road safety and logbook requirements, as well as proper reporting of any violations.  Drivers are responsible for weighing out all loads, and any fines incurred as a result of weight discrepancies.
  5. Follows the Federal DOT regulations for hauling of Hazardous materials, which include proper placarding and appropriate paperwork.
  6. Utilizes the PeopleNet satilite system for load information and communication of pick ups and drops.
  7. Inspects and assures the safety of equipment operated.  Completes and  turns in vehicle condition reports for tractor and trailer taken out upon completion of each trip.
  8. Owner/Operators are required to complete and turn in a monthly maintenance record report.
  9. Completes and turns in trailer inspection sheets for each trip.
  10. Reports all maintenance or equipment damage to the Safety Director and fills out appropriate paperwork.
  11. Completes J.R.R.W. Transport, Inc. weekly packet (bills of lading and associated paperwork) and turns in by 12:00 p.m. on the following Monday.
  12. attend drivers' meetings and training as scheduled.
  13. Assures that all appropriate Permit packets and Accident kits material are kept up to date in your truck.  If additional replacement materials are needed please contact the Safety Department.


Reporting/Working Relationships


  1. Reports directly to the Safety Director. Takes direction from dispatch
  2. Communicates pick-up and delivery information/problems to dispatch.
  3. Communicates accidents, safety violations, and equipment damage to the Safety Director.
  4. Communicates time off requests to DOT Specialist and any Transportation problems to the Logistics Manager.
  5. Communicates with the Transportation Representative on-call after office hours in necessary situations.




1.     Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Hazmat endorsement.

2.     Preferably two years of verifiable over-the-road driving experience.

3.     Completion of truck driving school desirable.

4.     Meet physical requirements.

        a. Pass DOT physical.

        b. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

        c. Capable of safely climbing into and out of both a commercial vehicle tractor and trailer using the three points of contact rule.

        d. Capable of sitting for prolonged periods of time.
