Assists in the management of microbiology and chemistry lab activities for all testing, personnel and laboratory procedures. Schedules and assigns workloads for techs and maintains close rapport with production to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting microbiological hazards. Conducts periodic facility inspections and may perform daily bacteriological environmental inspections in critical plant areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
o Manage Micro swabbing programs
o Meeting requirements of EMPC and NPEM policy
o Meeting requirements of Product testing
o Data review and trending
o Corrective Actions
o Construction Assessments
o Hygienic Restoration events
o Gluten testing
o Upcoming projects
o Oversee quality testing in main QA lab and in Kitchens 8 & 9
o Training on processes
o Data review and analysis
o Ensure compliance to Lab Excellence section of CAG audit.
o Coordinate efforts through Quality Assurance Supervisors.
o Directly supervise hourly lab employees.
o Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws. Includes, but is not limited to performance appraisals, performance rewards and disciplining employees.
o Interview, hire, train, and regularly communicate with employees on job duties and expectations within the department.
o Plan, schedule, assign and direct work within the department.
o Address employee concerns and resolves problems/complaints.
o Support the movement of techs into the department (bid techs and back-ups)
Knowledge, Training, and Experience Requirements:
o Requires a college degree from an accredited college/university with a major in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or other related subject
o Requires a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a lab environment, prefer experience in a manufacturing environment,
o Prefer work experience in food manufacturing industry,
o Prefer work experience in a union environment,
o Prefer work experience with GFSI certification audits and knowledge of HACCP.
o Must be able to handle multiple projects/situations at one time.
o Must have excellent organizational and planning skills.
o Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, monitor own work to ensure quality.
o Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to communicate. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and taste and smell. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
