Overview
Manage and oversee lighting work activities for theatre operations in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions. Assess lighting needs for theatrical productions. Serve as the production electrician for musicals, opera, plays, concerts and other events in the department’s performing arts venues. Prepare and maintain lighting equipment for theatre operations in coordination with the Assistant Technical Director. Provide technical services to classes via training and supervising other staff/student technicians assigned to classes, recitals, etc. Train and supervise technical staff and student workers performing lighting related maintenance in all theatre spaces and during departmental events.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in with an emphasis in lighting design and technology.
Required Experience:
2 years' relevant experience or equivalent combination. Must include experience with theatrical lighting techniques & equipment, management, operation and maintenance of theatre lighting equipment, collaborating with designers, administering budgets, and supervising staff.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working in a higher education environment including music and theatre areas; professional lighting/master electrician experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of trends in lighting equipment and best practices. Ability to read and draft designs, schematics, construction blueprints, and plans. Familiarity with theatrical rigging systems and safety protocols.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $72,000.00 to USD $88,000.00 New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
