Database Engineer (Junior)

Position Description
CGI Federal is looking for a Junior Database Engineer who will assist in establishing database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy. Your future duties and responsibilities
Adapts business requirements, developed by modeling/ development staff and systems engineers, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application.
Documents and communicates database design.
Evaluates and installs database management systems.
Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms.
Builds windows, screens, and reports.
Assists in designing user interface and business application prototypes.
Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment. Provides expertise in devising, negotiating, and defending the tables and fields provided in the database.
At more experienced levels, helps to develop an understanding of client's original data and storage mechanisms.
Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimal storage organization.
Determines how tables relate to each other and how fields interact within the tables for a relational model.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Bachelor?s Degree is required plus 1-2 years of relevant experience
Complies with all policies related confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
Performs basic database/application training, assists business analysts and users with determining storage, access and data requirements for new or modified databases and applications.
Experience to perform basic lifecycle data administration and database functions of data analysis, design, development, normalization, installation, implementation, tuning and configuration, backups and recovery, and monitoring.
Assists and can in a limited way perform development and testing of logical and physical database designs including normalization, indexing, and other activities to make sure the database is efficient, tuned and configured for best and efficient usage.
Prepares documentation of logical and physical designs of existing and recommended databases. Assists with design thereof.
Prepares, delivers, or assists with presentations on database management system concepts, standards, procedures, user training, and for use.
Assists or can, in a limited way, develop database management system standards, procedures, and conventions for review and use.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of Oracle, SQLServer, Greenplum, Hadoop, or Data lakes.
