The Project Manager(Senior/Lead PM) is responsible for delivering on assigned projects and goals as well as providing leadership internally to drive innovation projects. The projects assigned to this PM tend to be ?first of its kind? and disruptive and will look to transform how the utility business operates. More specifically, the PM is responsible for meeting the objectives on/ahead of schedule, on/under budget, successfully document and transfer all acquired knowledge and transition successful projects into the business. In order to do this, the PM will lead highly-capable, cross-functional teams which will include members that are both internal and external to National Grid. The planning and execution of activities will be focused on delivering the right solution to the right customer at the right time.
The Project Manager(Senior/Lead PM) is accountable to perform a wide range of duties including most, if not all, of the following:
Plan the project:
Define the scope of the project in collaboration with the appropriate organizations and regulators.
Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project.
Determine the resources (time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project.
Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities.
Review the project schedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required.
Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion.
Staff the project:
In consultation with the appropriate organizations/leaders, recruit, interview and select staff and/or volunteers with appropriate skills for the project activities.
Manage project staff and/or volunteers according to the established policies and practices of the organization.
Ensure that all project personnel receive an appropriate orientation to the organization and the project.
Contract qualified vendors/consultants to work on the project as appropriate.
Implement the project:
Execute the project according to the project plan.
Develop forms and records to document project activities.
Set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured.
Monitor the progress of the project and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project.
Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards.
Manage the project:
Write reports on the project for leadership and our regulators.
Communicate with regulators as required.
Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures.
Report actual costs and variances to established budgets on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly).
Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure that all financial records for the project are up to date.
Manage risks and issues effectively.
Evaluate the project:
Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
Evaluate the outcomes of the project as established during the planning phase.
Document lessons learned from the project and share it with the broader organization
Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with 5-10 years of project management experience delivering technology or innovation projects (an advanced degree in business and/or a technical discipline is preferred).
Demonstrated proficiency with MS Project, Primavera and/or other Project Management software and the MS Office Suite of products; Technical knowledge related to the job.
Project Management Professional certification is preferred
Ability to communicate verbally with people inside and outside of organization.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
Good people skills, works well with others.
