Job Purpose:
The Project Manager(Senior/Lead PM) is responsiblefor delivering on assigned projects and goals as well as providing leadershipinternally to drive innovation projects. The projects assigned to this PM tendto be ?first of its kind? and disruptive and will look to transform how theutility business operates. More specifically, the PM is responsible for meetingthe objectives on/ahead of schedule, on/under budget, successfully document andtransfer all acquired knowledge and transition successful projects into thebusiness. In order to do this, the PM will lead highly-capable,cross-functional teams which will include members that are both internal andexternal to National Grid. The planning and execution of activities will befocused on delivering the right solution to the right customer at the righttime.
Key Accountabilities:
The Project Manager(Senior/Lead PM) is accountable to perform a wide range of duties including most, if notall, of the following:
Plan the project:
Define the scope of theproject in collaboration with the appropriate organizations and regulators.
Create a detailed workplan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfullycomplete the project.
Determine the resources(time, money, equipment, etc.) required to complete the project.
Develop a schedule forproject completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities.
Review the projectschedule with senior management and all other staff that will be affected bythe project activities; revise the schedule as required.
Determine the objectivesand measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion.
Staff the project:
In consultation with the appropriate organizations/leaders,recruit, interview and select staff and/or volunteers with appropriate skillsfor the project activities.
Manage project staff and/or volunteers accordingto the established policies and practices of the organization.
Ensure that all project personnel receive anappropriate orientation to the organization and the project.
Contract qualified vendors/consultants to workon the project as appropriate.
Implement the project:
Execute the project according to the projectplan.
Develop forms and records to document projectactivities.
Set up files to ensure that all project informationis appropriately documented and secured.
Monitor the progress of the project and makeadjustments as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Establish a communication schedule to updatestakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress ofthe project.
Review the quality of the work completed with the project team ona regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards.
Manage the project:
Write reports on the project for leadership and our regulators.
Communicate with regulators as required.
Monitor and approve allbudgeted project expenditures.
Report actual costs andvariances to established budgets on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly).
Manage all project fundsaccording to established accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure that allfinancial records for the project are up to date.
Manage risks and issueseffectively.
Evaluate the project:
Ensure that the projectdeliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
Evaluate the outcomes ofthe project as established during the planning phase.
Document lessons learnedfrom the project and share it with the broader organization
Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with5-10 years of project management experience delivering technology or innovationprojects (an advanced degree in business and/or a technical discipline ispreferred).
Demonstrated proficiencywith MS Project, Primavera and/or other Project Management software and the MSOffice Suite of products; Technical knowledge related to the job.
Project ManagementProfessional certification is preferred
Ability to communicateverbally with people inside and outside of organization.
Ability to plan,organize and prioritize work.
Good people skills,works well with others.
