About the Position:

We are currently lookingfor an innovative architecture leader who loves to undertake complexchallenges, create groundbreaking ideas, and actualize the final products. As the Utility industry transforms, we need aleader who can act as a technology scout, sense out new opportunities, and helpdefine transformational improvements to guide National Grid in the shift to adigital utility. In addition, we needthis individual to be a practical architect who can set policies and standards,motivate a federated architecture team to follow and support those standardsand who is willing to dive in where necessary to help implement them.
This role will report intothe VP IS Strategy, Innovation and Ventures and will require frequentcollaboration with National Grid Labs, Group Technology, US and UK project teams,and operational leadership. In addition,they will work hand in hand with the IS Leadership Team (ISLT, comprised of theCIO and CIO?s direct reports).

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations for investment
Assess the organizational impact of new technologies
Capture and share best practices among the IT community
Create, prioritize, communicate, manage, and execute innovation roadmaps, project plans, and commitments
Design, innovate and build solutions that enable the latest technologies including IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, sensor data processing and voice assistants
Set an ambitious and challenging 5 year business innovation and architecture strategy and roadmap
Lead market analysis and innovation, driving the team to generate new ideas and business streams to grow the business, improve safety and ensure reliability of our services
Participate in the National Grid strategic planning processes, driving the long­ term plan to leverage emerging technologies and simplify our landscape with existing technologies
Architecture Leadership
Communicate effectively with non-technicalstakeholders
Together with Domain Architects, craft acoherent and defensible story explaining why technology choices/approachesappear on our regulatory investment portfolio for the rate case / RIIO period
Establish trusted EA team procedures andservices, which include consulting on methods and tools, project delivery,standards and methods development, and governance
Lead the implementation of business capability,reference, and target architectures to guide the development and implementationof technical solutions
Guide the creation of, and alignment to, 3-5year strategic technology roadmaps
Together with the domain architects, layoutdomain specific roadmaps taking into account business specifics whileleveraging the scale of National Grid to promote common solutions and minimizetechnology proliferation
Establish architecture standards to drivesimplification and commonality across the National Grid businesses whilemaintaining the flexibility necessary for each of the businesses
Drive standards and platforms throughinfluence. Guide domain architects andsolution architects which reside in the business teams
Work with and through partners. Ensure highlevels of performance, excellent communication and delivery
Ensure that work is always in the best interestsof National Grid and our partners
Mentor and coach direct and indirect teams spreadacross the US and UK
Knowledge & Experience Required:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
Well versed with IT fundamentals includingAgile, IT investment /portfolio management, Enterprise Architecture,Information Risk Management, ITIL, and Service Management
Experience establishing or developing enterpriseor solution architecture functions
Experience working with external and/or internal stakeholders toimplement large-scale solutions
Presentation and communication skills with a high degree ofcomfort with technical and business audiences
Experience working with startups, accelerators, and incubators
Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learnquickly
Experience working with stakeholders to identify relevantrequirements and understand how those requirements fit into the broaderenterprise context for the application / platform
Have the ability to resolve complex challenges with limitedoversight
Significant experience of senior management in a globalorganization
Bias for action, ability to drive for results and appetite forrisk without day to day direction
Entrepreneurial, capable of selling concepts and engaging othersbehind a shared vision / set of objectives
Experience of empowering staff to perform at their best and todevelop to meet National Grid?s long term needs
Proven experience of successfully leading on the development ofstrategy and business plans
Works well under pressure
Excellent team player and that you can also work under your ownsteam. You?re not scared of rolling up your sleeves and doing the hard workyourself
Experience working with partners and startups to drive innovationwithin the company
Demonstrable experience of contributing to the wider corporateneeds of an organization beyond the immediate job description
Excellent communications, influencing and negotiations skills
Track record of developing successful, long-lasting relationshipsacross the business to drive forward change initiatives, including ademonstrated ability to engage and influence senior managers.
Experience in coaching and mentoring others - demonstrateunderstanding and application of teaching/coaching for performance.
